contradiction?

The lead says naturally occuring bald, and then later the article says taht the bald is mowed (which I'm pretty sure is accurate). Am I missing something here, or should the naturally occuring be removed? --Omarcheeseboro (talk) 02:56, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

When national forests and national parks started protecting the highlands in the 1920s, some grassy balds (including Max Patch) known to have occurred naturally began growing over with brush and small trees. I believe the going theory is that large herbivores such as elk grazed on the mountain tops and "maintained" the balds for thousands of years, and later cattle from early settlers maintained them. With nothing grazing on them, they have to maintain them via mowing and burning. Bms4880 (talk) 13:26, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Lightning strike
