Correction of World Patent Marketing section based on 2019 court records
[edit]I am proposing an update to the "World Patent Marketing" section to ensure compliance with WP:BLP and WP:NPOV. The current text relies on preliminary 2017–2018 news coverage and omits the final judicial resolutions of the cases mentioned.
The Rationale for the Update:
• Verification of Final Outcome: The article currently omits the March 2019 dismissal of the Carlson class action by U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff (Case 1:16-cv-09828-JSR). As the definitive judicial conclusion to the fraud allegations, this is essential for a neutral and complete record.
• Standard Legal Language: The 2018 FTC settlement was a mediated resolution where the defendants neither admitted nor denied the allegations. Reflecting this specific legal status is required under neutrality guidelines for living persons.
• Direct Evidence: The court-appointed receiver in the case stated on the record that he had "no reason to believe" Whitaker was aware of any wrongdoing.
Proposed Replacement Text:
"In 2017, the FTC filed a civil action against World Patent Marketing; the matter was resolved in May 2018 through a mediated settlement in which the defendants neither admitted nor denied the allegations.
Additionally, a related consumer class-action lawsuit was dismissed in March 2019 by U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff (Case 1:16-cv-09828-JSR). The court-appointed receiver in the case stated he had 'no reason to believe' that Whitaker was aware of any wrongdoing."
I am updating the section to reflect these final court records. SaltySnow (talk) 07:33, 4 March 2026 (UTC) SaltySnow (talk) 07:33, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
