Matthew Jukes is a wine writer based in the United Kingdom. He publishes several annual wine reports, including the 100 Best Australian Wines (first published in 2004) {{Edit COI}} , the Bordeaux En Primeur Report, the Burgundy En Primeur Report, and the 2025/26 edition of The Piemonte Report, the eleventh of its kind, was published in September 2025. {{Edit COI}}

Matthew is the co-founder and CEO of Jukes Cordialities, the eponymous alcohol-free drinks collection, first launched in 2020.  In October 2025, Jukes launched Believe by Jukes, a new drink to complement the existing Classic range of cordialities and ready-to-pour drinks.

Career history

Jukes started his career in the wine industry in 1987, working at the Barnes Wine Shop, London SW13 {{Edit COI}}. From there, Jukes moved into buying for Bibendum Restaurant & Oyster Bar, London SW3, winning awards for his wine list, and then into radio when journalism started to become his focus. After 3 years on a weekly radio slot for the BBC, Channel 4 approached Jukes to host 'Wine Hunt'. Jukes then went on to write 'The Wine Book', which was later serialised by the Daily Mail.^{[citation needed]}

Jukes became the Daily Mail Weekend Magazine’s weekly wine correspondent from 1999 to 2022 {{Edit COI}} .  He has also written a weekly wine column for MoneyWeek UK since 2006 {{Edit COI}} .  Jukes has written a monthly wine column for English wine specialist publication Vineyard Magazine {{Edit COI}}  since its inception in 2018.   Jukes went on to publish a further 13 books {{Edit COI}} , and in 2008, he moved into exclusively publishing online for members of his website.

Awards

In January 2012, Jukes was awarded the Honorary Australian of the Year Award by the Australia Day Foundation. It recognises a non-Australian resident of the UK who displays "Australian characteristics" or has contributed significantly to Australia.

In May 2011, Off Licence News voted Matthew the most influential wine writer in the UK.

His book, Taste Food & Wine, co-written with Tyson Stelzer, won the Australian Food Media Award for Best Food and Writing.

In 2002, Jukes won the International Wine and Spirit Competition’s Trophy for Wine Communicator of the Year.

Jukes Cordialities won ten medals from ten entries (including two Trophies) at the World Alcohol-Free Awards 2025 {{Edit COI}}, which led to Jukes being awarded Alcohol-Free Drinks Producer of the Year {{Edit COI}}
