# of recipients?

Where does 404 come from? The GC article puts the number around 160. Samer (talk) 12:38, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

The matter is rather complicated because recipients of a number of different medals were required to exchange their original medals for the GC. http://www.gc-database.co.uk/facts.htm does indeed state the total number as 404 (though I'm not 100% sure this has been updated to reflect Croucher's award, he's been added to the lists on the same site, I haven't double-checked that this figure has been updated to include him as well). Gazette date

The supplement is dated 24 July, though it is a supplement to the Gazette printed on the 23rd. The citation for the award is clearly dated the 24th. David Underdown (talk) 20:40, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
