Is it safe to assume that Bob Dylan and Joan Baez and Cat Stephens and Janis Joplin never went to Matala? Joni Mitchell did, but that was it.

Tourist brochures and the like push it hard that they all did, but no real anecdotes, no photographs, no dates...

Anyone have anything to suggest the tourist hype has merit?

This is how the Matala sky is described in Joni Mitchell’s song "Carey". That was the time when a large group of artists, including Janice Joplin, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan, spent their days and nights under the Cretan sky, in the pretty fishing village of Matala.

Error in "Matala, Crete" article

Joni Mitchell lived in a hippie cave with Cary Raditz in Matala, Crete in early 1970, not 1969 as stated in the article. A famous sepia photo of Joni and Cary sitting on a park bench was taken on Easter Sunday, March 29, 1970 in Heraklion. They drove there from Matala for the Easter holiday.
