I am a friend of the article subject, so I am requesting these changes rather than editing directly. All additions are sourced to Harvard Athletics, Major League Rugby, The Fiji Times, and KION. Full wikitext for each change follows.
1. Lead sentence – replace the first sentence with (keep the existing birth-date citation to the Paris 2024 athlete page):
Mataiyasi "Matai" Leuta (/məˈtaɪ liˈuːtə/ mə-TY lee-OO-tə; born July 20, 1990)[1] is an American rugby union coach and former player. He is an assistant coach for the Harvard Crimson women's rugby team.[2][3] As a player he represented the United States at the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics and played in Major League Rugby for the Houston SaberCats, Chicago Hounds, and San Diego Legion.[3]
2. Early life – after the sentence "Matai is from Marina, California, and spent much of his childhood in Fiji." add:
He lived in Fiji from about age six to sixteen, growing up in Kinoya, a suburb of Nasinu near Suva, where he attended the Assemblies of God school. His family has ancestral ties to the village of Salia on Nayau in the Lau Islands.[4]
3. Club and college rugby – after the sentence "Matai played for the Monterey Beachdogs when he attended Monterey Peninsula College, and later with the San Jose Seahawks." add:
He also played for California State University, Monterey Bay, which competed in the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO), and was identified as an NSCRO player when invited to the USA Eagles sevens high performance camp in 2015.[5]
(The article's existing NSCRO citation, currently ref 5, also supports this and may be reused instead.)
4. Coral Coast Sevens – add after the 2021 PR7s subsection:
In January 2025, Leuta played in Fiji for the first time as a member of Mike Friday's Select 7s invitational side at the Coral Coast Sevens in Sigatoka.[4]
5. New section – insert before References:
Coaching career
[edit]Leuta joined the Harvard Crimson women's rugby program as an assistant coach during the 2026 spring sevens season.[2] In his first season, Harvard won the Ivy League sevens title and finished third at the CRAA 7s National Championships. He entered his second season with the program in 2026–27.[3]
Before Harvard, Leuta worked as a high performance coach with Rugby Tens, coached at Rhinos Rugby Academy, and served as a technical skills coach for the USA Falcons and the USA under-18 team.[2][3]
6. Infobox – add or replace these fields:
| fullname = Mataiyasi Leuta | years1 = 2022 | clubs1 = Houston SaberCats | years2 = 2023 | clubs2 = Chicago Hounds | years3 = 2024 | clubs3 = San Diego Legion | coachyears1 = 2026– | coachteams1 = Harvard Crimson women (assistant)
Also change the national sevens years from 2015–2021 to 2015–2024, since the article already cites his Paris 2024 selection.
7. Category – add Category:American rugby union coaches.

Updates from above
[edit]I have now applied these changes directly, since the article was substantially out of date and every addition is cited to published sources (Harvard Athletics, Major League Rugby, The Fiji Times, Goff Rugby Report, Americas Rugby News, Team USA). I know the subject personally, so I am leaving this thread open for any editor who wants to review the changes. The edit COI request above can be closed. ~~~~ Paine franklin 2001 (talk) 11:39, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
