On Luongo’s alleged Ballon d’Or longlist nomination

[edit]

The current source on Luongo’s alleged Ballon d’or longlist nomination is an interview with the player dated 6 October 2015, in which his nomination was mentioned as a matter of fact. The actual list in question was released on the 2nd of October (Source: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/oct/02/ballon-dor-long-list-2015-lionel-messi-david-ospina). However, this is not a list from an official source, but rather a leaked version published by Mundo Deportivo, with the official longlist reportedly releasing on the 7th of October. As far as I can tell, no such list was ever officially published, which is why I really doubt the legitimacy of the Mundo Deportivo leak. Luongo then did not make the official shortlist of 23 men, which was released on 20 October.

If there is a source that has officially published the longlist, it should be added to this page. If there is no such source, I suggest the mention of this nomination is either reworded to clarify that it was not official, or removed entirely. UranKilka (talk) 18:39, 1 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
