Masset and Old Masset

[edit]

this page needs to be split, or there needs to be Masset (disambiguation) so as to deal with Old Masset and, as I recall, the chiefly name Masset the placename comes from; there's a Chief Masset in the hsitory of hte marine fur trade; like Edenshaw and Maquinna it's a "dynastic" name (not quite the right word) and has its own history, and more htan one person has had it. Old Masset maybe could be the same article as the correspondng IR, as has been done in some other cases, but I don't know t he area well enough to say.Skookum1 (talk) 14:30, 19 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dubious climatic data

[edit]

The article states that Masset receives 150 cm of rain a year. However, this seems suspiciously close to the 150.8 cm that Environment Canada reports as the annual precipitation for the "Sewall Masset Inlet" station, which is on the west side of Masset Inlet, and actually a significant distance from the town of Masset. In general, the climate of Haida Gwaii becomes significantly drier from west to east, so the town of Masset probably receives less precipitation than what is reported for the "Sewall Masset Inlet" station. Environment Canada does not appear to report the average annual precipitation for the town of Masset, although the nearby town of Tlell receives 124.2 cm a year. Does anyone knows of a reliable reference for the annual precipitation of Masset?
