Response to reviewer feedback

[edit]

Thank you for the feedback. I've carefully reviewed the sourcing concerns raised and made substantial changes throughout the article. Removed Grokipedia, HuffPost, a Spotify podcast, Wikipedia self-references, and blog sources. Replaced them with Smith College, Five Points Arts, Discogs, IMDb, the Northampton Arts Council, and the Artist and Place Podcast, among others. Every claim in the article is now supported by an independent, verifiable source. WikiContrib44 (talk) 03:54, 10 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Those aren't notability-building sources either. Reliable sourcing means media coverage, not colleges or directories or arts councils or podcasts or non-media organizations: coverage about him in real media. Bearcat (talk) 04:48, 10 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the clarification on both points. The article's notability rests on coverage in Rolling Stone, the New York Times, XXL, URB, Art New England, the Bay State Banner, PBS/New England Public Media, Sotheby's, among others. I've corrected the categories issue and have worked to bring all supporting citations in line with Wikipedia's reliability standards, replacing organizational listings and podcasts with coverage from Haverford College's alumni magazine, the Amherst Bulletin, Georgetown University, and other institutional and media sources. I appreciate the guidance and am committed to meeting Wikipedia's standards. WikiContrib44 (talk) 16:27, 10 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@WikiContrib44 Hi! After an article is in mainspace, if you want to make changes to it as a person with a COI, the appropriate process to follow is to make edit requests instead of editing directly. Please see Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide and Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request. Dreamyshade (talk) 17:06, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Did you know nomination

New enough, long enough, no copyvios detected (only direct quotes), no QPQ required yet. Hook is interesting and corroborated by source, but it needs to be mentioned in the article itself. The WP:PROMO warning should also be addressed first. PetéWarrior (talk) 03:15, 11 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Promotional language

[edit]

Hi @The9Man, I see that you accepted this article into mainspace, and I'm seeing quite a bit of promotional and essay-like language that needs revision for WP:Neutral point of view and encyclopedic tone (WP:TONE). Examples:

  • His practice spans visual art, music, and writing, unified by a methodology drawn from hip-hop sampling, to examine the human psyche, identity, power, migration, and belonging.
  • Guglielmo was born in Queens, New York, and raised in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, part of a large blue-collar Southern Italian-American family with roots in the Campania and Basilicata regions of Italy — in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that inspired his stage name Vesuveo.
  • Regular visits to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, immersion in the burgeoning hip-hop of 1980s New York, and DJ Red Alert's Friday night mix-shows on WRKS-FM further shaped his aesthetic sensibilities.
  • It was in a darkroom photography class at Hastings High School that he fell in love with making his own images and saw a reproduction of David Hockney's Pearblossom Hwy, which later sparked his first experiments in photo-collage.
  • Comprising seven large-scale pieces, Spirits in the Land grew out of a 2019 journey to Sicily and marked a formal turning point in his practice.
  • Thematically, the project addresses memory, vulnerability, migration, and the imprinted legacies of his ancestors on the land they inhabited.

Also, a lot of statements are only partially supported by the citations. I think this article should go back to draft mode so that it can be rewritten in a more encyclopedic manner. What do you think? Dreamyshade (talk) 17:23, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I follow WP:AFCPURPOSE when reviewing AfC. Acceptance at AfC does not mean that an article is free of neutrality, tone, or other cleanup issues, but it will likely survive a deletion discussion.
In this case, I think the concerns you've identified can be addressed through normal editing and appropriate cleanup tags in mainspace, rather than requiring the article to be returned to draft. That said, as an NPP reviewer, you're of course free to take whatever action you consider appropriate. - The9Man Talk 03:38, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Can you help me see which sources you're seeing could hold up at AfD? Looks like these three could contribute to GNG:
These seem like maybes:
The rest of the sources seem to be primary sources, brief mentions, or about the hip-hop group rather than the person, unless I'm missing something? Looks like this article would basically have to be stubbified and rewritten from the reliable sources. Dreamyshade (talk) 04:51, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Following up on the sourcing discussion above. A closer review of the sources already identified, along with additional independent coverage not previously assessed, suggests the article meets WP:GNG more clearly than the current stub reflects.
On the sources already flagged as "maybe": each of the following has now been reviewed directly and appears to meet the standard of independent, substantial, individually-focused coverage:
  • The Connecting Point (NEPM/PBS) segment "Large-Scale Collages Explore Themes of Identity" is a dedicated broadcast feature on the visual art practice, not a passing mention.
  • The Tertulia (NEPM) interview is a 21-minute segment focused entirely on the subject's Cuba photo-collage work.
  • Take Magazine, Art New England, and Bay State Banner are each independent, substantial, individually-focused review/profile pieces, not brief mentions or primary sources.
Additional independent, substantial coverage identified, not previously part of the discussion:
  • Daily Hampshire Gazette (Dec 2017) — a full Q&A interview.
  • MassLive/The Republican (May 2017) — a long-form individual feature with extensive on-the-record quotes.
  • El Pueblo Latino — two separate substantial feature articles (June 2017 and Nov 2017).
  • Valley Advocate — a second, distinct individual feature (May 2017) beyond the one already cited.
  • WYBC Yale Radio / Museum of Non-Visible Art — a dedicated individual interview.
  • A second, distinct NEPM/Connecting Point piece, "Mark Guglielmo's First Career as a Rapper" (a digital-exclusive companion piece produced by the same team) — a separate, dedicated feature specifically on the music career.
  • Big Red & Shiny (2017) — a serious critical review by the same art critic who wrote the Art New England piece, engaging directly with specific individual works.
  • Fra Noi (Sept 2026) — a substantial independent profile published within the last few days, demonstrating that independent coverage is ongoing and current, not limited to the historical record already discussed above.
On the music-career sourcing and WP:NOTINHERITED: the concern that coverage of a group doesn't confer individual notability on a member is a legitimate one, and several sources in the article's history are genuinely about The Anonymous collectively rather than the subject specifically. Separating those out, the following sources individually and substantively discuss the subject by name (as Vesuveo or Manifest), not merely as a group member:
  • XXL (1998) — individually quotes and discusses his verse.
  • BAM, "Ur-Bam" (1998) — individually quotes his lyrics and discusses his background.
  • Urban Network — a dedicated profile specifically of "Manifest," describing him individually as "the creative force behind" the group's signature single.
  • Rolling Stone (2003 and 2013) — both pieces name and discuss the collaboration individually.
  • Sotheby's (2023) — an independent, professionally-researched auction catalogue entry drawing entirely on primary documentation of the subject's individual role.
  • Haverford Magazine (2011) — a dedicated individual profile of his solo album.
On sourcing format: several of the strongest older sources (music-press reviews from 1994–2001) exist as scanned print citations. Per WP:V, a source's validity does not depend on online accessibility; these are cited by full print bibliographic detail (publication, date, page), with any digital scan serving only as a convenience copy, not as the basis of the citation. Happy to route any specific citation through WP:RX if independent verification of a particular print source would help.
Given the above, it's suggested that the article be restored to substantially more than its current three-paragraph state, built from the sources listed here rather than a full reversion. Once there's agreement on scope, a specific formal edit request with verbatim text can follow, per the standard COI process. WikiContrib44 (talk) 02:37, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
You are welcome to draft additional material in your sandbox (User:WikiContrib44/sandbox) and use the edit request process to find another editor to look at it. I recommend drafting from scratch based on only reliable sources, not the brief mentions or primary sources - please carefully read Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons and Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Please note WP:LLMCOMM. Dreamyshade (talk) 02:56, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Edit request: full rewrite with updated sourcing

[edit]

I have rewritten the article from scratch in my sandbox to address sourcing concerns and promotional language. All text is now supported by clearly cited sources, independent where possible, promotional language removed, following what secondary sources support. I'm requesting an uninvolved editor review it and consider replacing the current article with this new draft: User:WikiContrib44/sandbox WikiContrib44 (talk) 01:08, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
