Expansion

I've expanded this article quite a bit, but haven't added any information from the Spanish and Portuguese Wikipedia articles, since none of the unique information on those pages is actually sourced. Also, for reference, the Portuguese article includes two (unsourced) sightings not mentioned in any English works. --Bradypus Tamias (talk) 20:08, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

These two sightings as of 9 July 2019 version of here were purged subsequently on the same day, right after Bradypus Tamias posted here above.

I could not find any WP:RS dating pre-wiki either, and one is dated to 1967. It is still possible such sources exist, if a piece ran in a local paper, you usually cant use regular google to find it. Such a situation came up in the El Hombre Caimán article where 1940s publication was alleged.--Kiyoweap (talk) 00:33, 29 March 2025 (UTC)

Florentino Ameghino

Something else I picked up on pt.wiki was that Oren was hardly the first to float the idea of ground sloth survival, since Florentino Ameghino (1898) "An existing ground sloth in Patagonia", Natural Science 13 anticipated him by many years.

However this piece doesn't mention Mapinguari or Ameghino relying on any indigenous witness, rather, he discusses a geographer named Ramon Lista who said he thought he saw a pangolin in South America.--Kiyoweap (talk) 00:57, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
