This page was basically a stub, so I expanded it quite a bit. It could probably still use more work, such as:

• Description of post-1990 extensions to map algebra
• A section focusing on cartographic modeling (see also Suitability analysis and Suitability model)?
• A list of commonly implemented operators? With history? Too long?

Request to add historical commercial implementations (MapBox and MGGA)

Hello! I have a conflict of interest as the original developer, so I am requesting an edit rather than changing the main article directly.

I would like to propose adding a brief note to the history or implementation section regarding early commercial software that brought Dana Tomlin's Map Algebra syntax to market—specifically MapBox by Decision Images and its subsequent port to Intergraph's Modular GIS Environment as MGE Grid Analyst (MGGA).This bridges an important historical gap in how the syntax moved from academic Fortran code (MAP) to standalone PC environments and enterprise workstation CAD/GIS engines in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

"Following the publication of Tomlin's cartographic modeling framework, early commercial implementations emerged to bring system-independent Map Algebra to personal computers and workstations. Notably, Decision Images released MapBox c. 1989–1990 as a standalone PC implementation of Tomlin's syntax, which was later ported to Intergraph's Modular GIS Environment (MGE) as MGE Grid Analyst (MGGA) in 1992–1993 to handle raster modeling within CAD graphics engines."
