Manyema is not a tribe or homogenous ethnicity.

[edit]

1870 to 1880 reports of “Manyema” was inferences to the original populations within present day Maniema and Kivu. Distinctions were made with the Nyamwezi arabs speaking Swahili , who occupied the region to form slave trade routes and trading posts. The first recorded languages within the then Manyema regions further amplified the distinctions and recognised homogenous groupings within the region and those who entered via Tanzania in the 19th century. This explains why “Manyema” is not an ethnicity but was initially a term used to refer to the original populations of the region. 2A02:C7C:535A:FC00:5874:BF95:AAB4:9B21 (talk) 07:08, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ethnicity
“An ethnicity or ethnic group is a group of people who identify with each other on the basis of perceived shared attributes that distinguish them from other groups. Attributes that ethnicities believe to share include language, culture, common sets of ancestry, traditions, society, religion, history or social treatment”
By this definition, the Manyema are an ethnicity. Attempts to try to diminish their distinct identity will not be eviscerated. 82.36.163.120 (talk) 22:50, 20 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
