When I was introduced to Manu DiBango's music in the '90's I was told he was regarded as "the godfather of African Beat" music, one of the forefather or originators of World Beat music. I would edit the article and mention it, except I have no reference to offer and so I assume someone would take down that comment. But if anyone heard the same and has a reference or testimony from another well-regarded musician then it might be worth mentioning. At the time I attended the Wakafrica (album) tour. It was outstanding. The crowd was mostly on their feet the entire time. (How could they not be?)
