Manthra was the maid in the court of Kaikayi the queen of ayaodhya and is held responsible for convincing kaikayi to ask Dasrataha to send Rama into exile for 14 years. In reality it was Indra the king of gods who requested her to do so as this would give Rama a way to face Ravana and thus kill him. Although manthra agreed to perform Indra bidding but she cursed Indra that as he is forcing her to do a task that is not right he will never be prayed in any temple or hindu family. This is the reason that although Indra is the king of gods is never prayed in any Hindu temple.

Do you have any proof from the text or other reputable sources that Indra convinced Manthara to act as she did? MongolianMoose 01:40, 19 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
