Change the Title

[edit]

Kindly change the name from 'Mandeali Dialect' to 'Mandeali Language' or 'Mandeali'. I tried doing it, but failed each time. ping Uanfala Nik9hil (talk) 10:03, 23 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Nik9hil, I would tend to agree with renaming, but the current version of the article explicitly states it's a dialect, with that exact word immediately followed by a ref that I recall you've added yourself. – Uanfala (talk) 11:19, 23 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

List /ʃ/ as a marginal phoneme

[edit]

Mandeyali has a sibilant merger and only in certain areas bordering Kullu (or in Sanskrit/Hindi loanwords by educated speakers) is /ʃ/ pronounced. Neither Grierson in the Linguistic Survey of India Volume 9 part 4 or Bailey's Languages of the Northern Himalayas show any record of /ʃ/ in Mandeyali proper and Grierson records marginal instances of it in Suketi. The only place /ʃ/ is recorded is in a 1971 survey of Mandeyali and Kullui in the census and even then no Mandeyali words with /ʃ/ are demonstrated. ~2026-47192-94 (talk) 09:18, 31 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
