[edit]Unlike many weird polearms, this one is genuine rather than an RPG invention; I have seen a picture of two. However I am skeptical of many of the additional details in this article. We claim it will pass around a man-sized cylinder but the two in my picture are far too small for that, they are clearly meant to catch an arm or leg. (And the spikes are thus logically there to stop the limb from simply being withdrawn.) We also claim Man catchers played a role in the medieval custom of capturing noble opponents for ransom but my reference states they were used to apprehend fugitives. Further these two are dated to the 16th and early 17th century which is a bit late for mediaeval customs. -- Securiger 12:13, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
