I'll take this review. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 13:03, 12 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Before I start, I'm having some trouble verifying information. Can you add sources in next to the claims they are supporting? For instance, looking at all the sources used in the first paragraph of the body, none are speaking about pineapples. The source that mentions a 1922 completion (not opening) is all the way at the end of the paragraph. Ping me when you're done. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 05:36, 13 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Rollinginhisgrave: I've added more inline citations. I've also cleaned some more stuff up, and in doing so I was able to find quite a few more sources. Hopefully the article looks better now. - dwarfroe (talk / contr) 06:05, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Dwarfroe. The Images of Old Hawaiʻi site is super edge case, and I don't think it's sufficiently reliable for the claims here. I believe it is the blog of a real-estate/land use consultant. The best claim it has to reliability is that a local advocacy group gave it an award in 2014, far from meeting the standards of WP:BLOGS. I'll get to the review proper shortly, hopefully this can be replaced. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 06:26, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Sources

[edit]

Sources sufficiently verify information.

Spot check:

  • [3a] Green tickY
  • [3d] Green tickY
  • [4] Magenta clockclock Can you provide the relevant page number for this?
  • [5][6], generally, can you provide the source text that you're referencing for the claim that it was planned to ship pineapples from the Baldwin Packers pineapple cannery?
    • This appears to be SYNTH. - RIHG
  • [8] Green tickY
  • [10] Magenta clockclock this source seems careful to attribute this claim.
  • [12] Red XN
  • [14] Magenta clockclock only verifies year, you can just stick to including this if you want.
  • [16] Green tickY
  • [17][18] Magenta clockclock I don't see verification for August fire date in either source

Passes spot check

Prose and content

[edit]

I've given it a copyedit which you can feel free to revert.

  • and was planned to ship sugar A wharf cannot ship sugar
  • The pond had been the site of a battle between Kauhi'aimokuakama and Kamehameha I during the former's rebellion. This sentence needs a lot more context. What rebellion? When?
  • "Hawaiian historian David Malo's house was also located near this location." relevance?
  • The road approaching the pier cut across the pond diagonally built for the pond?
  • Whalers also used the pier for whaling activities Too repetitious
  • In 1971, Xanadu Corp... UNDUE?
  • "permits for commercial activities" tourist activities?
  • "there are supposedly" I think it would be better to format this under "they allege"
  • The DLNR had also considered adding an overflow parking lot to deal with the problem you have identified the problem as "there is little space for locals to fish or canoe"
  • "Following the 2023 Hawaii wildfires in Lahaina in August 2023, the pier and boat ramp reopened early, in October" UNDUE
  • "In 2025, McKelvey proposed a bill..." did it pass? Otherwise, is this DUE? WP:NOTNEWS
  • Hurricane Iniki in 1992 caused significant damage to the pier... What other damage did it do that you don't list?
  • It is notable for marine biology... This sentence doesn't make sense
    • It's still unclear why knowing the date is important. - RIHG
  • The coral reef was especially affected... You say here it was affected, then you go into possibilities. Can you line these up?
    • Can you see if there's an update to this? - RIHG
  • a variety of butterflyfish speciesbutterflyfish Can you just say this?

Thank you for the review Rollinginhisgrave. I believe that I've fixed everything that you've mentioned. - dwarfroe (talk / contr) 19:47, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Dwarfroe, I've left a few comments above about prose.

Other

[edit]
  • Broadness Magenta clockclock: Some key information is missing, in particular the length. In addition every source I've checked, there's been more information that can be integrated, I have integrated some as an example from Quayle 1971 in this edit, the absent of this has left key gaps in coverage. I think this needs to be rectified. Many sources mention the seal population. I can also see heaps of information not included in a search of archive.org, and in this search of the archives of Honolulu Star-Advertiser, as well as ProQuest, both accessible via WP:The Wikipedia Library. These articles generally have an architecture section, which is missing. Many other newspaper archives also exist that don't appear to have been consulted.
  • Images Green tickY: Appropriately tagged, captioned, and you took it! Thankyou so much. I would hope there would be a photo of the wharf when it opened, as this would be within the public domain by now, but that goes beyond the GA criteria.
  • Neutral Green tickY
  • Stable Green tickY
  • No OR/CLOP Green tickY None found in spot check, and 7.4% earwig.

Dwarfroe, unfortunately I think I need to fail this on broadness. The article is very short for a GAN, and there is a lot of information not included, more than can be addressed in a week. Feel free to ping me if you need any assistance researching, Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 01:43, 15 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
