Racism

[edit]

The whole page is racist from beginning to end. To refer to Spaniards from other provinces as foreigners, where the Vasque provinces were also a part of the Kingdom of Spain is just plainly racist, trying to ethnically divide where a division does not exist. In fact the word maketo is racist, alluding to the skin colors of the individuals thus identified, meaning "darkies". I do not see a single reference in the article about this, but a lot of justification and rationalization about why and for what the word is used. ~2025-33888-38 (talk) 21:42, 15 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

I believe the editor who wrote much of the page was using the Spanish language page for reference. Do you have a source for the Basque meaning of the word (I don't speak Basque). As for the ethnic divisions, wouldn't you say that Basque is a different ethnicity than Castilian and that there was tension between native Basques and outsiders?
