US Navy Mailgram

This source has some info on the term as used by the US Navy mostly during WWII as described in this US Navy publication. Jim Forte, a philatelic dealer, has several examples: search the term here I don't have time right now but will work on this later. Yes, the statement "Western Union invented the mailgram in 1970" is categorically incorrect. A 1941 envelope showing the handstamp "MAILGRAM" from the US Navy is only one piece of evidence. Gwyll (talk) 13:33, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

@Gwyll: I have a Mailgram envelope sent in April 1941 from Pearl Harbour to Washington DC by Clipper and could email you an image if you have an email attached to your username. The following post office publication "The United States Postal Service An American History 1775 – 2006" known as pub100.pdf, mentions the 1970 year but not specifically as a Western Union product.
