The result of the move request was: page moved to History of Mahdist Sudan, per request and comment below. - GTBacchus(talk) 19:59, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
History of Sudan (1884–1898) → Mahdist Sudan — The use of dates in the title does not make the topic of the article immediately obvious. The historical period covered here is that of the Mahdist state, so this should be reflected in the title. The article dealing with the next era in Sudanese history is titled History of Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, which is a far better title than one using mere dates. BomBom (talk) 12:25, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Survey
[edit]- Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with
*'''Support'''or*'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
- Comment Perhaps History of Mahdist Sudan would make more sense, to bring it into the same format as the following period. Skinsmoke (talk) 05:10, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

'Religion' of the Mahdist State
[edit]What is meant by labeling the Mahdist revolt state "Sunni"? If it's meant to refer to the general populace, then this should be noted. If it's meant to refer to the government itself, then this seems inappropriate. Zusty001 (talk) 04:15, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Zusty001: You are raising a good point. I will look if I find some information on the matter. Applodion (talk) 16:56, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
ISO code!?
[edit]Why in the world does the Mahdist State have an ISO code specified? ISO never gave them the code SD, they gave it to Sudan, as the Mahdist State hadn't existed for decades when the codes were given out. Should we put ISO codes for Assyria and Nazi Germany too, just because what countries they are now located in have them? OFC not! Higgs In Space (talk) 18:57, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- It certainly shouldn't be there, though I can't figure out how to remove it. DervotNum4 (talk) 16:37, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- I also wanted to remove it ages ago, though I also have no idea where it is stored in the article. It is seemingly not part of the infobox template itself. Applodion (talk) 19:02, 23 September 2026 (UTC)
- I'm going to go check where the ISO code is in the article now Higgs In Space (talk) 01:53, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- On "Pages transcluded onto the current version of this page" it includes Template:ISO 3166 code, although I can't for the life of me figure out where it is. Higgs In Space (talk) 01:56, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- This revision
- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mahdist_State&oldid=377316946
- is the first revision the ISO code is added, along with the Mahdist State's infobox (you have to scroll a little down for it) Higgs In Space (talk) 01:58, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- And I checked the difference between revisions, CTRL F-ed for "SD", and couldn't find anything. I'm too much of an amateur for anything deeper, so I hope someone else can figure out how the ISO code thing works. Higgs In Space (talk) 02:01, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Figured it out, it was the "common_name" parameter being listed as "Sudan", which as far as I can tell makes no impact on the info box other than the ISO code. DervotNum4 (talk) 02:04, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you so much, also this makes me wonder how many historical countries have the same problem. Higgs In Space (talk) 17:29, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
