It's easy to argue that the spin wave article makes a long magnon article unnecessary. Therefore I wonder if it's still appropriate to characterize magnon as a stub. Is there some standard way to point readers interested in magnons to the spin wave article? Should readers of magnon simply be redirected to spin wave?Reply

Oleg Tchernyshyov 04:58, 22 October 2005 (UTC) I think it makes sense to distinguish between spin waves and magnons (think classical electromagnetic waves vs photons). So I expanded the magnon stub to explain the concept and include some history. Actually, I am not sure who invented the term! Does anyone know?Reply

The phrase "In contrast, a phonon is a collective excitation of the crystal lattice atoms or ions" near the beginning is sprung on the reader rather unexpectedly, as though to prevent anyone from confusing the two concepts. This seems rather unlikely, in fact rather confusingly seems to suggest that they are related.
