B&W photo of Pat Riley and Magic Johnson incorrectly identifies the third person in the photo as Jerry West. That individual is not Jerry West, and that citation should be removed. Goyato (talk) 00:24, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. The source the image was taken from says Pat Riley, Earvin "Magic" Johnson and Jerry West at the Century Plaza, Century City, 1989 ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:32, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Assuming it's this photo, that is Jerry West with Pat Riley and Magic. The source the image comes from says so as well.  Muboshgu (talk) 01:10, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's not Jerry West. – 2.O.Boxing 01:12, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it is.  Muboshgu (talk) 01:30, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
The source is wrong. This was West in 1988, a year before the photo in question. – 2.O.Boxing 01:44, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Magic Johnson was 6'7-1/4" in socks at the 1992 Olympic games. If you look at any photograph or video of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson together, Magic is easily 2" shorter than Bird, who was listed at 6'9", but was actually 6'9-3/4". 66.186.107.210 (talk) 08:08, 8 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Cannolis (talk) 09:09, 8 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Under Professional Career: “HIV and announcements and Olympics (1991-1992)” it says his HIV was found during a pre-participation physical. In reality, teams took out insurance policies on players with big contracts; the life insurance company had him screened for HIV. For a simple change, switch “after a physical examination” to “after the team’s life insurance policy on Johnson screened him for HIV”.

Depending on your taste, it could also be made into multiple sentences in accordance to more detail from Gary Vitti’s first hand account. For example, “Johnson had already been cleared by team training staff before the 1991-92 season. However, it is not uncommon that teams take out life insurance policies on players with large contracts. It was results from the insurance company that initially diagnosed Johnson with HIV, leading to a period of planning for the future despite the disease not being well understood at the time.”

Source: Gary Vitti, longtime LA Lakers Athletic Trainer and one of the first 7 people to know about Johnson’s diagnosis. Tells the story during his episode of the “All the Smoke” podcast, as well as in his book “32 Years of Titles and Tears from the Best Seat in the House”. Not done for now: Please provide a more specific citation. Per WP:PAGENUM, for the podcast, specify the time that he tells the story, and for the book, specify a page number. Also, please use {{Cite podcast}} and {{Cite book}} respectively for an easier way to format a citation. Thank you for your request, and welcome to Wikipedia! pattersonuwu njz (talk) 14:15, 13 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
