Maeotians are Ancient Pontic greek settlers.

Maeotians aren't ancient pontic greek settlers, obviously.

If they were greek, then people from Greece would call them that way, they wouldn't distinguish them so much. They called them barbarians and clearly indicated the difference even between maeotians themselves. For example when they mention Sindi people, they talk about their hellenic culture, but when they talk about others, they don't even mention that.

Maeotians were, probably,just a bunch of mixed tribes (some of them were indo-iranian, some proto-circassian) that lived on the shores of Azov Sea. Elarxux (talk) 23:51, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

I'm not even sure why they should have been Caucasian at all. The most obvious option, which is oddly missing from the article, is that they were simply Iranian-speaking, most likely Sarmatian tribes. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 01:35, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

Mistake?

It says "The earliest known reference to Moesia is from the logographer Hellanicus of Lesbos."

'Moesia' referred to a place in the Balkans south of the danube. Is this not a mistake? Cuniform Grocery List (talk) 15:49, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
