Melbourne, Quebec ... or ... Richmond, Quebec ?
[edit]The introduction says Melbourne. The info box says Richmond. Is there a dispute? Are we trying to split the difference? OK by me, as it's far afield from my knowledge, but someone here might know the answer. Dratman (talk) 01:28, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out. Britannica says Richmond. There is the NYT obit but I don't have a subscription so I can't access it. I don't think there are many active editors with this page on their watchlist I am going to post a link to this thread at the WP:RDE. MarnetteD|Talk 02:07, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
I fixed the question title to indicate what it's talking about.(Sorry, I thought I was still in WP:RD.)- The article links to Melbourne, Quebec, but at the top of that, there's a hatnote saying that there was another Melbourne; and that links to Richmond, Quebec, which says that the other Melbourne was just across the river from Richmond and merged into it in 1999. (The present Melbourne is just a few miles away.) So the logical explanation would be that it was that Melbourne. If so, I would suggest wording like Melbourne, now part of Richmond, Quebec. --184.144.99.72 (talk) 03:04, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- I have been advised to post the question at a different desk so this thread Wikipedia:WikiProject_Resource_Exchange/Resource_Request/Archive_113#Help_at_the_Mack_Sennett_article. 184s info will need to be considered i cleaning this up as well. MarnetteD|Talk 04:12, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- Responses here Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Entertainment#Help_at_the_Mack_Sennett_article and here Wikipedia:WikiProject_Resource_Exchange/Resource_Request#Help_at_the_Mack_Sennett_article all mention Danville Quebec. My day is busy so I may not have time to edit the article so if anyone wants to use any of these references to update the page please feel free to do so. - I have updated the info in the article with refs and added a footnote about the discrepancy in the towns named. Anyone who finds the wordinbg on the clunky side should feel free to copy edit them. MarnetteD|Talk 15:31, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

References are a disaster
[edit]Eurodog: The references here are a disaster. Someone has been inserting references using cite templates with little or no care for which template to use. Books and only books should use {{cite book}}. Newspapers and other news sources should use {{cite news}}. Audio and video sources should use {{cite AV media}}. General websites should use {{cite web}}. Titles should not have quotation marks or italic markup in them except in rare cases like a web page with a title like "Is there a future for Homo sapiens anymore?" The title should be the actual title, not something like Audio via Internet Archive or Via Google Books or English print ed. I fixed a few, but I am not willing to click on every link to determine the actual title, author, date, etc. that should be used with each cite template reference. —Anomalocaris (talk) 04:27, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
Birthplace
[edit]We affirm that Mack Sennett was born in Danville, but in his autobiography he claims to have been born in Richmond. ~2026-36417-8 (talk) 14:29, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, this was discussed in 2021 and the editors seem to have decided to follow other sources which said Sennett was born in Danville. Wikipedia generally prefers secondary sources and an autobiography is a primary source. See links below:

- @TSventon Thank you for your kind reply. Research on Google and Google Books shows that other sources also mention Richmond. Furthermore, I truly believe we should add an explanatory note indicating that, in his autobiography, he states that he was born in Richmond. ~2026-39225-7 (talk) 01:22, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
- An explanatory note sounds reasonable. TSventon (talk) 02:02, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
