[edit]I came across this while stub-sorting, corrected its malformed title, looked around to see whether the topic was duplicated anywhere in the encyclopedia and couldn't find it. Clearly an important topic, but perhaps WP is a bit light on material related to "metal-bashing" as compared to IT.
I provided an OSHA ref as an external link; there is also material at UK HSE site eg this which includes EHSR 1.4.2.1. of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC says: "1.4.2.1. Fixed guards: Fixed guards must be fixed by systems that can be opened or removed only with tools. Their fixing systems must remain attached to the guards or to the machinery when the guards are removed. Where possible, guards must be incapable of remaining in place without their fixings.". Machinery Directive is a redlink in the list at List of European Union directives, and EHSR only appears in en.Wiki as a name of a tyttyttyttyttyttyttyttyttyttyttyttytyttytrailway company, so there's scope for a lot more work here. Proposed Major Change to Article
[edit]I have created an expanded version of this article (see User:Mgkay/Machine_guarding) and would like to propose it as the new base article for the topic, from which others can expand it. I am an academic and have taught and done research in material handling for many years and am a member of the College-Industry Council on Material Handling Education. I have tried to make it concise and comprehensive and have included citations for everything in the article. Please let me know your comments regarding the change. Michael G.
