You need sources

[edit]

You two need to provide reliable sources for those changes. The article text currently reflects what the current sources say. if you have references that say otherwise, then you need to provide a link to them. Otherwise, your changes are just original research and will be reverted. SilverserenC 02:06, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Luke Brugnara was sentenced on $300K tax loss not $45M! This is public record. The AOL article is full of inaccuracies and need to be corrected....Brugnara's 1992-1998 tax returns were NOT part of the indictment; in fact, Brugnara won a Federal Civil Tax Case for those tax years in 2008 in Civil Tax Court...please review PUBLIC FEDERAL COURT DOCUMENTS (civil case Federal Judge Haines, 3/2008; Federal criminal case Judge Alsup 5/2010) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.202.47.21 (talk) 03:16, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Can you give me a link to these documents? That would make it easier. Better yet, can you give me a link to a news article that got the information right? SilverserenC 03:32, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

That fourth one actually says the amount was $45 million, at least for the sale of the four properties (and one in Vegas) from 2000 to 2002. SilverserenC 04:00, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
the website source is not supporting your statement. 50.175.250.142 (talk) 23:31, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, looks like that link died at some point in the 13 years since I posted it. Here's an updated link to the press release with the information on it being $45 million, 50.175.250.142. SilverserenC 00:07, 9 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Updates and Edits

[edit]

This article was very POV, with a lot of direct quotes from legal filings by Brugnara, as well as cited statements that weren't backed up by the contents of the cited article. I tried to clean it up, trimming out unsupported statements, and improving the balance of the piece. If anyone has concerns about that, happy to discuss them here. BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 20:08, 4 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

This is now twice that Joshualeverburg1 has reverted my edits with only the comment "reverting vandalism," rather than bringing concerns to the talk page. If there are specific concerns about the edits, I'm happy to discuss them, but the problems with the page were clearly significant, including a very NPOV tone and content mix and statements in the page that were nowhere in the citation provided.BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 12:48, 5 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

And, once again, a mass reversion of edits with the claim that I'm trying to "besmirch" Mr. Brugnara by attempting to make the article NPOV and to have the statements in the article actually be supported by the articles cited. Again, if there are specific concerns or objections to the edits, this talk page is the place to discuss them.BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 22:39, 5 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Las Vegan as source

[edit]

A number of the statements in the article are sourced to a story in the Las Vegan magazine, and I'm skeptical that it really qualifies as a reliable source, as it appears to be mainly a vanity magazine, rather than a real news source. To the extent possible, I've replaced the citations to statements that are sourced from that article to other reliable sources, but there are still a number in there. Thoughts on how to handle this?BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 16:08, 7 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Both this article and the SF Weekly are pretty dubious sources; essentially, they are completely "Brugnara said this" articles, gosh-wowing at Brugnara's personality, and taking his own statements at face value. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆 𝄐𝄇 16:45, 8 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
That was my take too. I'll go through and trim some more. Thanks for the feedback.BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 17:01, 8 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Luke Bregnara's date of birth is 18 October 1963 as confirmed by the on-line official California Birth Index here: https://www.californiabirthindex.org/birth/luke_d_brugnara_born_1963_8313468 Serendipity94123 (talk) 18:22, 16 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

We need to remove and add certain information under picture. Add education (San Diego Sate University (BA) San Francisco Law School in template. Add website Use regular template like another living person : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Tyson or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martha_Stewart.

Luke Dominic Brugnara (born 1963 or 1964) is an American commercial real estate investor and developer. Brugnara is known for purchasing high rise office buildings and casinos in San Francisco and the Las Vegas Strip in the 1990s and 2000s.

Template should be changed. Mprikhodko (talk) 15:55, 14 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Why? Is it no longer the case that he was convicted and imprisoned for tax evasion and mail fraud? He is quite arguably best known for this. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 17:14, 14 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Please identify your relationship to Luke Dominic Brugnara Mprikhodko (talk) 19:42, 14 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
What makes you think @Jpgordon has one? On the other hand, given the history of this article, I have to ask, do you have a relationship to Mr. Brugnara? BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 19:59, 14 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I am happy to share my identity with you, as you and Jgordon will share your identity with me. i have no affiliation with luke brugnara at all. if you look at other business men and women who have been to federal prison (see Martha Stewart's Wikipedia page) none have any mention of criminal conviction, criminal status, or opening paragraph criminal convictions,...you are trying to defame luke brugnra by not following the standard set by Wikipedia's editors whereas the opening paragraph and index should NOT look like a Dept of Justice webpage. I am happy to take this all the way up the ladder at Wikipedia because you are not following the standards set by Wikipedia (refer to Martha Stewarts wiki page for guidance). Mprikhodko (talk) 20:21, 14 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I don't need to share anything with anybody. If you want to know who I am and what I've done, just look at User:Jpgordon; I'm one of the least anonymous people here. I only know of Brugnara because (a) he used to own a building on Post Street in SF where one of my doctors has an office (and where Brugnara was fined a million bucks for disposing of medical waste improperly); and I lived a block away from the house he rented to Michael Jackson in Las Vegas. I don't think you actually know what "defamation" is; quite certainly, publishing true statements is not that. As far as Martha Stewart is concerned, she's extremely well known, and her single conviction for insider training is not a major part of her biography; there's really no comparison to be made. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 23:44, 14 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
To give you some context, there's a long history of attempts by sock puppets connected to Mr. Brugnara to make non-neutral edits to this page. Given this context, you can understand how what I'm sure are entirely unbiased edits on your part could come across as attempting to whitewash the article. I am curious, what led you to decide to focus so much of your newly-started Wikipedia editing on this page? BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 00:40, 15 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
He does have a point, though. Mr Brugnara is not at moment incarcerated nor, to my knowledge, under any criminal investigation. Infobox person would indeed be more appropriate; full information about his legal issues is in the article. This is consistent with my belief that introductory sentences should not say stuff like "XXX is a poet, navigator, dog groomer, and convicted criminal." --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 02:10, 15 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
JPgordon, could you please make this more appropriate? You’re welcome to rewrite it with references if needed, or I can revise it myself.
BubbaJoe123456, your identity is anonymous. I am writing about individuals in Russian prisons, specifically political prisoners, where safeguarding people from harm is critically important. ~2025-33742-43 (talk) 02:29, 15 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Jpgordon, @BubbaJoe123456, et al.: I've reverted a legal threat from a temporary account. There have been a few UPE operations associated with the subject (see for example Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Luke Brugnara (2nd nomination).) He actually is under criminal investigation - he's been indicted on wire fraud and money laundering charges, and will go to trial next year. United States v. Brugnara, 3:24-cr-00277 – CourtListener.com At this point, he's at least as notable for his criminal history as for his real estate work. BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 14:48, 17 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I've blocked Mprikhodko for making legal threats, as well as the underlying IP range it's been using with its temporary accounts. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 15:48, 17 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

should the Lead paragraph have "convicted felon" ?
Piñanana (talk) 02:39, 3 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Never. It conveys no useful information. We say, "He was convicted of tax evasion in 2010; in 2015, he was convicted of defrauding an art dealer and sentenced to seven years in prison" in the second sentence; this says plenty. The phrase "convicted felon" can mean anything from a 50-year-old pot conviction to Charles Manson -- I wish it were in the "never use this" category of phrases. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 02:47, 3 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
