I don't feel qualified to write this section, but this quotation of Corpi from Ishmael Reed's Blues City seems to deserve attention:

Mexicans usually never accept Chicano writers. People like me have lived in the United States for most of their lives. I go see my mother and brothers in Mexico. My ties to Mexico are very strong, but Mexicans say that I am too Chicana. I am too Mexican for Chicanos, and for gringos I don't exist. I am in limbo.
