ODNB says "Forbes, who had been raised to the peerage as a lord of parliament by 1 July 1445, when he appears as Lord Forbes."
Cokayne says "between Oct. 1444 and July 1445"; earlier sources claim before 12 July 1442, but Cokayne asserts that this arises from a misreading of the document, which says 1447. None of this affects the precedence. Septentrionalis 00:46, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Counting
[edit]An odd thing I've just noticed - James Forbes, 17th Lord Forbes is 17th in the Dictionary of National Biography but 18th in the newer ODNB.
The ODNB agrees with us that the 4th is d. 1491, but our 17th is their 18th and our 18th is their 19th. Any idea where the discrepancy has come from? Andrew Gray (talk) 19:00, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
The Complete Peerage, The Scots Peerage, and Cracroft's Peerage all agree that there is a John Forbes, 9th Lord Forbes (d. Aug 1606), who is the son of John Forbes, 8th Lord Forbes (d. Jun 1606). The half-brother of this 9th Lord is Arthur Forbes, 10th Lord Forbes (d. 1641). Our list currently skips one of the John Forbes who died in 1606, and makes Arthur the 9th Lord.--ネイ (talk) 12:51, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
