Number of Birds Left in Kenya

I've recently cleaned up the copy a little bit, though it still needs a lot of work. I excised the lines "They have a Yellow tum tum" and "they look so cute" from this article. The presence of such descriptions casts into doubt the accuracy of the assertion that there are only 10,000 and 19,000 birds left in Kenya. Can anyone corroborate this?
