It’s a peninsula

A 1985 Supreme Court ruling said that Long Island is not an island, but a peninsula. Therefore, Long “Island” is kind of a misnomer. This should be added to the article. ~2026-24767-4 (talk) 15:27, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

I go with island/Island. (The Supreme Court erred in this case.)

Long Island, NY (comprising Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk) is one landmass surrounded on all 'sides' by water.

The racial makeup of Nassau and Suffolk counties now ---(the 2002 study figures in this Wikipedia article are outdated)

Please see U.S. Census Quick Facts, particularly the 'Race and Hispanic Origin' section (especially the first and last entries there) 'White alone' and 'White alone, no Hispanic or Latino'. Please also see the 'Geography' section at the bottom of table for the population density per square mile figures. Current U.S. Census data contradicts a statement in this article.

The statement "In 2002, The New York Times cited a study by the non-profit group ERASE Racism, which determined that Nassau and Suffolk counties constitute the most racially segregated suburbs in the United States.[97]" -- as it appears in this Wikipedia article -- no longer holds true by current U.S. Census figures. Why the reluctance to provide more recent US Census demographic data that clearly shows Nassau and Suffolk counties are far more racially diverse than many other counties in the U.S.

That one paragraph about that old study gives no context. Please also keep in mind that the population density of Nassau County is 4,905 people per square mile. https://vividmaps.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/US-Whites.jpg shows that many counties in the US are far less "diverse". ~2026-14937-55 (talk) 22:47, 24 March 2026 (UTC)

Suggestion to improve the accuracy of the first paragraph of this article

The last sentence of the article's first paragraph states "With a land area of 1,401 square miles (3,630 km2), it is the largest island in the contiguous United States and the 11th largest island in the U.S.[4]"

Please improve the accuracy of the article by adding that: Long Island's 1,401 square miles of land area constitute less than 3 percent of New York State's 47,123.59* square miles of land area.
