Gaelic Translation: Incorrect!

[edit]

Hmmm - Cac Carn Beag does not mean pass of the small cairn, it means small pile of shit. It's one of the many examples of victorian era map makers cleaning up Gaelic names. Just mentioning that here rather than editing the article incase that kind of thinking influences Wikipedia too. Lianachan 16:11, 10 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

How about a reliable source for this claim? — Athænara 01:10, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Your home page says you're against personal attacks, and yet you accuse me of "trollery"? Thanks. I know the correct ttranslation because I'm a Scottish highlander with a long time interest and years of experience of studying place names - especially Gaelic ones. However, since Wikipedia is obsessed with internet only sources - here is one for you. I'm sure a simple Google search would dig out several more. Lianachan 10:04, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
In the larger context of obscene silliness scattered on Wikipedia daily, may I be forgiven for having opined in my edit summary that a post (not you) looked like trollery. Having read the lovely reference you provided, I now understand that it was not what it seemed. I thank you for your speedy and informative reply. — Æ. 11:55, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome, although I'm still at a loss to see how any trollery could have been suspected from my orignal comment - especially since I explained why the mistranslation exists in the first place. My growing disillusion with this place gathers pace almost daily. Lianachan 13:29, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
here there is some evidence of the above mentioned translation.--Pampuco (talk) 21:33, 15 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
