Update needed

The first paragraph says "There are over 41,638 known variable stars (2008)". These figures were old already in 2008 and badly needs to be updated. In that process there also is needed a consideration about which stars a list like this should contain. Deryni (talk) 09:04, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Wrong year of discovery of variability of Alpha Herculis in the list

The year of discovery 1759 of Alpha Herculis as to be variable is wrong. The origin of this error is probably a number twisting between 1759 (wrong) and 1795 (right) that appears in the “Guinness Book in Astronomy of Facts & Feats” by Patrick Moore, 1979. A reference for the accuracy of 1795 as a true discovery date is: "Burnham's Celestial Handbook, An Observer's Guide to the Universe Beyond the Solar System" by Robert Burnham, Jr., Dover Publ., Inc. New York, 1978, Vol. Two Page 964: "The variability of Alpha Herculis was discovered in 1795 by Sir William Herschel in 1795”.
