Move from "List of Botswanan flags"

[edit]

The reason given was:

Misspelled: "Botswanan" is not the official denonym. But in order to make it less confusing, instead of using proper denonyms (Motswana, Batswana), Botswana is more clear

An issue is that the word "Botswanan", in this context, is not a demonym (a noun used to refer to the people of a place) but an adjective formed from the proper noun Botswana and is used to refer to things of or from Botswana. You can see on wikipedia's List of adjectival and demonymic forms for countries and nations that these forms are usually the same, but sometimes not. You could refer to a sculpture as "Danish", but you would not refer to the sculptor as "a Danish" or his friends as "Danishes". He's a Dane, and his friends are Danes. It's more complicated than that list would suggest, but you'll see that Botswana is one of those rare exceptions where the adjective is different than the demonym. It is not clear at all that "Botswanan" is incorrect for this article title. ~ Misha Vargas (talk | contribs) 09:42, 7 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

I moved this article to the uncontroversial "List of flags of Botswana", in line with dozens of other similar lists. ~ Misha Vargas (talk | contribs) 23:56, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
