Removed Hans Zimmer from the list. Film composers do not qualify as contributors to general culture, and therefore should not be placed on a list of Classical composers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.41.51.48 (talk) 20:20, 22 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

This is a very debatable argument, since the intention of producing art has nothing to do with the value of the product. J.S. Bach has composed mostly for church related purposes and it doesn't interfere with the reception at all. --87.175.31.118 (talk) 04:20, 31 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mozart was Austrian.

Mozart wasn't Austrian either. Salzburg, his place of birth, was not part of Austria at the time. So if you want to be technical, he was Salzburger, not Austrian or German. If you're going to remove him from this list, you also should remove Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from Category:18th-century German composers, and probably some other categories, including the Austrian ones. Be prepared for fireworks if you do, there is long-established consensus to include him in both German and Austrian categories and lists. At a minimum, he spoke German, so this should qualify him for this list considering the German state did not exist at the time. Magic♪piano 20:38, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

This list contains several erroneous entries. Off the top of my head, Haydn, born in Rohrau, Austria; Mozart, born in Salzburg; and Schubert, born in Vienna.
