White goods

[edit]

When and where was the term "white goods" used for linens? It's currently redirected to Major appliance i.e. domestic appliances, and that's the only meaning I have come across before. - Fayenatic (talk) 12:55, 11 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

It should have said "White sale"... January and February "White sales" are routine in department stores, for selling bedding and towels on sale. The idea is that it gives people an extra incentive to buy these products at a time of the year when sales for them would usually be slow. More history in the White sale article, though! Hey, good work! Are you going to nominate this for a DYK award? Need to move fast. Let me know if you need help with that. – Fayenatic L (talk) 21:34, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
