[edit]This article is currently confusing two different engineering concepts. Tribological PV is a measurement applied to two solid (or reasonably solid) surfaces moving relative to one another. In this sense, pressure is just the contact force divided by the contact area. This is not a fluid pressure that can be regulated with traditional valves. Intuitively, a PV limit is just how fast and how hard a bearing surface can be rubbed without negative effects.
Valves often have bearing surfaces, so the concept of limiting PV can be relevant to the material selection phase of a detailed valve design process. ~2026-51612-91 (talk) 14:23, 25 September 2026 (UTC)
