Request to revise incorrect and misleading statements
[edit]Hello editors,
I would like to request a review of certain statements in this article.
Disclosure: I am affiliated with Lighthouse Investment Partners, so I am not making direct edits and am instead requesting review from independent editors.
Current text: "It was reported that Lighthouse pulled its capital from DeepBlue Asset Management a few weeks before its strategy paid off in March 2020. DeepBlue, a volatility arbitrage hedge fund was seeded with $150 million from Lighthouse. In late February 2020, its assets declined by over 10% in a few days and by mid-March, Lighthouse ordered it to be liquidated. However had Lighthouse let the fund continue, the payoff could have neared $750 million due to the 2020 stock market crash. Lighthouse did not notify its clients on the missed opportunity as it had no legal obligation to do so."
Issue: There are two related concerns with how the cited source is currently reflected:
1. The description of the investment outcome is overstated and insufficiently supported. The cited Institutional Investor article presents a hypothetical outcome (“could have” generated gains) attributed to unnamed sources, while also including a counterpoint from a source close to Lighthouse disputing both the strategy characterization and the potential magnitude of returns.
2. The statement regarding client notification appears to be tied to a speculative premise rather than a realized outcome. The cited source frames the investment result in hypothetical terms (i.e., what “could have” occurred under different market conditions). As such, the characterization of a “missed opportunity” is not a confirmed event but an interpretation attributed to certain sources. In this context, the inclusion of client notification may rely on an assumed outcome that is itself uncertain, and therefore may not be central to a neutral encyclopedic summary of the underlying events. Accordingly, this detail may be better omitted or de-emphasized to maintain appropriate weight and neutrality.
Suggested revision: A more neutral, balanced, and accurately attributed formulation may better align with Wikipedia standards. For example: "In 2021, Institutional Investor reported that Lighthouse withdrew capital from DeepBlue Asset Management before March 2020 market turmoil fully unfolded; the article said some sources believed the strategy might have generated substantial gains if it had been maintained, while a source close to Lighthouse disputed that characterization and the potential magnitude of returns." This revision is intended to provide a more even-handed, contextualized, and source-aligned summary.
