    • Great work on this article! It is very interesting and you clearly put a lot of effort into it. There are two issues though. The first is that Earwig shows a 51% copyright issue () - could you please trim the quote? Also, I was trying to verify some facts and could not find them in the inline citation (for example, I could not find the source that said that he identified as a lesbian during puberty). Could you please ensure that the citations verifying the fact are given at the end of the relevant statement and could you please do a spotcheck before I approve this to ensure that everything here is sourced? :) Also, Buzzfeed and the Daily Mirror are considered not the most reliable by they work in an WP:ABOUTSELF way so they are fine, as is the Facebook source. DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 09:00, 11 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
      • I've trimmed the quote, I hope the copyright issue decreased enough and we can still illustrate some of Hancox's thoughts. I found and added a source which said that he identified as a lesbian. I did a spot check, everything is sourced. Thank you for picking this up. ^^ Respair (talk) 14:36, 11 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
        • Thank you for this! All of the above are sourced in the article and verified and they are all interesting. Hence, this is approved. Well done! I think ALT0 is the most interesting. I would recommend one final spotcheck as I found an error (it said aged 10 in the article whereas it did not say so in the source) and it would be best to avoid these of course. DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 22:14, 12 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
          • Thank you for the response, I'm just wondering whether ALT0 is decided upon? I personally have a preference for ALT2 as I think it would probably entice more readers compared to the others, but I'd love to hear what others think. Respair (talk) 13:30, 13 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'm okay with either. DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 19:21, 13 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Initial Review

Green tickY - Previous Reviews/Comments:
  • There were no previous reviews beyond minor DYK discussion as of 2026-04-05.

Well-written:
Green tickY - (a) (prose)
Green tickY - Acronyms and technical terms:
  • None present.
Green tickY - Non-technical and non-grammatical Clarity:
  • "transgender youth" -> other relevant constructions.
  • I changed all instances that I saw with this construction to alternative forms. It can be a bit ambiguous. If you think any of the exact replacements were not 1:1, change them, but I would not recommend the "transgender youth" construction.
  • "edutainment"->"educational entertainment"
  • "transition"->"gender transition"
  • To me as an older person, the latter construction is more easily understood. I know cases of transition are sometimes more complex than "gender," but I think it is acceptable in this case.
  • "Noughties"->"2000s"
  • "Hancox has received recognition for his contributions to digital media and LGBTQ representation, and in addition to his publishing and online comedy work, he also co-founded the documentary film project My Genderation, which has produced work for the BBC and Channel 4."
  • I have some difficulty with the subject of this multi-clause sentence. I would suggest something like "Hancox has received recognition for his contributions to digital media and LGBTQ representation. He also co-founded the documentary film project My Genderation, which has produced work for the BBC and Channel 4." The other information which was deleted is mentioned in the lead previously.
Green tickY - Conciseness:
  • The Rainbow List sentence. I decided that between the conciseness and clarity issues, that I should just rewrite this sentence completely. Please take a look at it.
  • "one of seven participants of the Channel 4 reality television series My Transsexual Summer, where seven transgender people..."
  • "The second Trans Pride Book Fest was held on 6 December 2025 in London, as an annual event"
  • If only two have been held, no need to mention annual at this time.
  • I think there are a lot of small changes that could be made to this section that would amount to copyediting the page. Maybe request a copyedit after the review is done?
Green tickY - Spelling and grammar:
  • There were numerous small changes which I have gone ahead and changed myself. Often these were just tense agreement changes and the like.
  • There is a small bit of British vs. American engvar mixing in this article. I think you should go through it.
  • Whatever I was seeing as an ENGVAR issue previously, I do not see now, so this is fine.
  • "...revolves around the life of a 14-year-old."
Green tickY - (b) (MoS)
Green tickY - Lead:
  • No issues with the lead.
Green tickY - Layout:
  • The layout also has no issues.
Green tickY - Words-to-watch:
  • "to recognize and celebrate influential" -> I heavily edited the sentence this was in in order to make it a bit more neutral in wikivoice.
  • "showcasing young people" -> "regarding young people"
  • "healtier method" - slightly evaluative, even in this context.
  • There are a fair amount of words of praise in the article, and even though all are sourced, I would suggest that changing those quotations or paraphrasing a bit more neutrally throughout would help the article.
  • This is tied up in the overquotation issue also mentioned below.

Green tickY - Special Considerations for BLPs:
All of this per WP:Biographies of living persons and WP:MoS/Biography
Green tickY - Privacy concerns:
Green tickY - Avoid victimization
  • When it would be reasonable to assume that victims would face reprisal or retaliation for their speech, editors should avoid implicating them beyond the detail necessary to properly deliberate the subject matter.
  • There are no concerns here.
Green tickY - Privacy of personal information
  • Things like the "contact information, account numbers, etc." of the subject are not included, either in the text or a source linked in the text. Note that the city or town where a subject lives can be appropriate.
  • I believe the extent of what is included as of 2026-04-05 is appropriate.
Green tickY - Deadnaming and misgendering of transgender people
  • Whether a deadname or misgendering of a living person is removed is a matter of editorial judgment if it appears in reliable sources. In addition, whether revision deletion is used is based on administrative discretion, though suppression may be appropriate in some circumstances if there are privacy concerns. Both decisions are context-dependent.
  • While the deadname is not currently highlighted, it is present. The subject does not seem to really want to suppress that deadname, however. There are no issues here. The article addresses the subject using he/him pronouns, which is line with the subject's use.
Green tickY - People accused of crime
  • A living person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until convicted by a court of law. Accusations, investigations, arrests and charges do not amount to a conviction. Naming suspects before they're charged should also be avoided.
  • This is not an issue with this article.
Green tickY - Date of birth
  • Original research must not be used to extrapolate the date of birth. A verified social media account of an article subject saying about themselves something along the lines of "today is my 50th birthday" may fall under self-published sources for purposes of reporting a full date of birth. It may be usable if there is no reason to doubt it.
  • This is fine currently, though I would expect another reviewer to dislike that the basis of the DoB is a self-published source.
Green tickY - Privacy of names
  • When the name of a private individual has not been widely disseminated or has been intentionally concealed, such as in certain court cases or occupations, it is often preferable to omit it, especially when doing so does not result in a significant loss of context. When deciding whether to include a name, its publication in non-media secondary sources, such as scholarly journals or the work of recognized experts, should be afforded greater weight than brief appearances in news stories.
  • This is not an issue with this article.
Green tickY - Allegations
  • Material that may adversely affect a person's reputation should be treated with special care; in many jurisdictions, repeating a defamatory claim is actionable, and there are additional protections for subjects who are not public figures. If the subject has denied included allegations, their denial(s) should be reported too. Note that this is more important the less of a public figure the subject is.
  • There are currently no allegations in the article as of 2026-04-06.
Green tickY - General biographical style issues:
  • I don't have issues at this time. I think there could be issues seen in some of the personal details present throughout this article, but I believe that it is handled appropriately here.
Green tickY - People notable for only one event:
  • This does not apply to this subject, but I wanted to include it here.
Green tickY - Tone
  • BLPs should be written responsibly, cautiously, and in a dispassionate tone, avoiding both understatement and overstatement.
  • Original comment - I think the tone is an issue here, but I do not think the nominators writing is an issue. This comes back to the quote issues discussed below. If there are any lingering issues after the quotes are addressed, I imagine a "be bold" change will be enough to catch all of the remaining issues.
  • The main tone quotation issues have been addressed.

"Well-written" criteria result: Pass Pass

Verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check:
🔨 - (a) (references)
Green tickY - Links Functioning:
  • All links are currently functioning.
Green tickY - Citation Formatting:
  • There are some issues with ref duplication throughout this article. I would recommend installing a preferred userscript to notice these issues. I would recommend addressing this and taking another pass at ref formatting generally, though it looks fine at a glance for the time being. I will assess more rigorously when I dive into the sources.
  • (optional) The duplication issues have now been addressed and the citation formatting is all good now. I would recommend using the |display-authors= (5 I think) for the source with 15 authors. I think in general, that should be done.
  • (optional) This article is so well-sourced and packed with sources that I would consider changing the citation style to something that will accept the definition of sources after they are called. I will be a lot more organized when there are this many sources. Take a look at some of my own contributions to see what I mean. There are probably other ways of affecting this, but I use one in particular.
  • There were some marginal adjustments that I made. Like removing EDITOR as an author and adding an author's name instead of the email for one article.
Green tickY - Quote Issues:
  • There were originally a number of quote issues, but these issues have now been addressed.
Green tickY - Divergence between reference and text:
  • Assume that any references I do not mention here were fine. If I could not actually check a reference, I will note that here.
  • Round 1:
  • I'm not particularly sure if this is even to be assessed at GA as I have no seen this before, but I went ahead and removed: "In the text, these references are preceded by a double dagger (‡):" -> "References to these are preceded by a double dagger (‡):" in order to avoid the self-reference which is not allowed by MoS in general. Plus it just kinda looks weird to me.
[1]: Does this reference support "Hancox was born on 15 June 1989,assigned female." That's clearly supported by other references that you have in the text, so maybe the use of reference one to support this statement should be changed.
[1]: I don't think this reference is supporting "In 2015, Hancox lived with his girlfriend in Brighton; as of 2020, they resided in Southsea, Portsmouth." You have other references here, no maybe just delete it.
[3]: "At around the age of 18, Hancox learned about transgender identity and the existence of transgender men through the internet, and later came out to his parents" - I cannot find mention of him discovering it on the internet in this source.
[5]: "He has said that at the age of five he told his mother that he was "a boy trapped in a girl's body"." - I do not see support for this in the source.
[8]: This source was functioning for me previously, but is not functioning now, so I did not check the references to this source.
[26]: I had trouble with the paywall of this source.
[37]: I had trouble with the paywall of this source.
  • Round 2:
[1a]: This is good now.
[Various]: "In 2015, Hancox lived with his girlfriend in Brighton; as of 2020, they resided in Southsea, Portsmouth." is now supported.
[Various]: "At around the age of 18, Hancox learned about transgender identity and the existence of transgender men, and later came out to his parents" is now also supported.
[Non-functioning link]: This is working now.
[26]: I checked this and it is fine.
[37]: I checked this and it is fine.
[9]: This link is functioning now.
Green tickY - (b) (citations to reliable sources)
Green tickY - Flagging any unreliable sources:
  • There are a handful of marginal sources, but all are used appropriately.
Green tickY - (c) (original research)
Green tickY - Checking each reference:
  • I did not see much OR here, and really not much was said in this article which was not strictly factual.
Green tickY - (d) (copyvio and plagiarism)
Green tickY - Earwig Results:
  • There are no issues flagged via Earwig.
Green tickY - Manual Pass:
  • No issues here.

Green tickY - (b) (focus/scope)
Green tickY - Pass/Fail and Explanation:

"Broadness" criteria result: Pass Pass

Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
  • Overquotations issues fixed before the other parts of this section were assessed:
  • What I mean by over-quotation generally is that there are too many quotations (sourced appropriately here, no that is not the issue) relative to non-quotation prose in some of the sections. I'll go section-by-section below.
  • Green tickY - Lede and early life - no quotes anyway
  • Green tickY - Career introduction - Quotes like "one of the best things I ever did" are fine in the intro section. I don't think "British mum" or character "Prinny Queen" are a potential problem either.
  • Green tickY - Filmmaking and recognition - No issues with this section, though optionally, I think it might be better to use neutral interpretive prose instead of quotes like "shock tactics" in the future. I think this specific instance is not a huge issue, though it is slightly more vague than would perhaps be desired in the future, but just not that quoting in place of descriptive verbs may be a source of issues going forward.
  • Green tickY - Graphic novels and cartoons - Issues are concentrated here.
  • Green tickY - "Growing up in the early 2000s..." block quote - I think there is a fair bit with this block quote that might not be desirable. For example, there is a lot to this quote which I do not think is encyclopedic in character and also requires so interpretation. I would recommend replacing this quote with prose or using smaller quotations from it sparingly if you feel that adds to the article.
  • This was the main section that needed to be addressed, and it was.
  • Green tickY - "important account of the lived experiences of trans people ... raw, witty and occasionally very tender"
  • I believe even sourced strongly interpretive bits like what I struck through are an issue. What you are trying to do here is source the good review. Bits about "important account" get into non-neutral promotional language I think, particularly in the context of lots of similarly non-neutral quotes.
  • Green tickY - and Hancox as "one of the most vitally important new voices in UK comics"
  • I would just remove this entire quote given it comes immediately after the previously mentioned quote and has precisely the same issues.
  • Green tickY - "a 'thrutopian' vision that provides a clear and engaging route from our current reality through to a world we can all be proud of".
  • I would replace this entire quote with encyclopedic prose. I didn't notice the term "thrutopian" previously either. I have no idea what this term even means, have no heard it before, and I imagine that the term would be similarly unclear to a lot of of others. I think the quote generally is doing more than providing an opinion, but gets into interpretative and non-neutral territory.
  • Green tickY - Personal life intro - no quotes anyway
  • Green tickY - Personal life transgender identity - Original comment: I personally think the quotes here are fine, but I am borderline on the block quote. I feel like this might cause issues with a small number of reviewers, so consider replacing some or all of that block quote with encyclopedic prose.
  • The issues here have now been addressed.

Green tickY - Opinions presented as facts:
  • I think this is much better now.
Green tickY - Facts presented as opinions:
  • This does not do this.
Green tickY - Good/Bad Implications:
  • "and has been recognized for his contributions" -> "appeared on lists related to"
  • "provide perspective" -> "present the experiences of transgender"
  • "tries to bring" -> sentence was reworked
  • "known for" -> "author of"
Green tickY - Participation in Arguments:
  • "he would cry every night to his mother
  • I feel like the emotional language could read as participation in an argument, so I changed it.
Green tickY - Potentially Contentious Labels:
  • cringe comedy
Green tickY - Fringe Views:
  • To be assessed.
Green tickY - Minor Points Given Undue Weight:
  • There might be some FA-level weighting concerns, but this is fine for GA.
Green tickY - Competing Views Integrated Well:
  • There are not many competing views here as of 2026-04-05.

@Respair Here is my initial review. Note that the Xs are not fails, but things that need to be improved to contrast with TBD/WIP.
Pietrus1 (talk) 20:31, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think edutainment can be kept as is, its a recognizable enough word, and if someone doesnt know it they can probably guess it, like tragicomedy Finnfrog99 (talk) 20:58, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I generally think contractions like that reduce readability, but it is not a requirement to change it. If the author thinks it should be kept, then they can offer a brief justification for keeping it. I don't mind. Pietrus1 (talk) 21:26, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I've changed it, it may increase readability and is appropriately less casual. While I do think "edutainment" is recognizable, I'm not going to argue it's inclusion. Respair (talk) 11:07, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Pietrus1 I've made changes to the issues that you've raised so far.
Well-written:
  • I've changed "transition" to "gender transition".
  • I've changed "edutainment" to "educational entertainment"
  • I've changed "noughties" to "2000s".
  • I've paraphrased the lead in order to tackle the multi-clause sentence you had difficulty with. "He co-founded the documentary film project My Genderation, which has produced work for the BBC and Channel 4. In addition to his film and publishing work, Hancox is known for his online sketch comedy videos on TikTok and YouTube, and has received recognition for his contributions to digital media and LGBTQ representation."
  • I've removed "seven" from "one of seven participants of the Channel 4 reality television series My Transsexual Summer, where seven transgender people..."
  • I've removed "as an annual event" from "The second Trans Pride Book Fest was held on 6 December 2025 in London, as an annual event"
  • I've added "the" to "...revolves around ... life of a 14-year-old".
  • You said that "there are a fair amount of words of praise in the article", could you please specify which areas are of concern so I can address them?
  • You mentioned uncertainty as to whether this paragraph would be a BLP issue: "In 2015, Hancox lived with his girlfriend in Brighton and, as of 2020 they reside in Southsea, Portsmouth." I think it's important to recognize Hancox isn't an extremely-famous public figure when compared to others, however, Hancox has mentioned his relationship and location in his content before. From what I can tell, it's not uncommon for biography articles to feature information like this. His girlfriend is left unnamed in the article, which is fair as I do not believe she is in the public eye. Southsea is a town of almost 20,000 residents. I think the information has due weight it's section, and (credit to @Finnfrog99 for this) Hancox himself has seen the article and does not seem to have any issue with the inclusion.
Verifiable with no original research:
  • I've merged all duplicate citations.
Illustrated:
Thank you so much for picking this up. ^^ Respair (talk) 11:06, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for making those changes. I think I can go more in-depth now, so I will clarify every all at once. Pietrus1 (talk) 17:05, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ok. Once the issues with quotes are fully addressed, I think it will be time to dig into the collapsed neutrality criteria and the verifiability section.
Pietrus1 (talk) 19:40, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • I've removed "important account of the lived experiences of trans people"
  • I've removed "one of the most vitally important new voices in UK comics"
  • I've removed "a 'thrutopian' vision that provides a clear and engaging route from our current reality through to a world we can all be proud of". The quote is entirely interpretive that I think an attempt to turn it into neutral prose would damage readability and wouldn't really benefit the article regardless.
  • In regards to the two block quotes: Would it be acceptable for them to be moved into Quotebox templates which go alongside the main prose, as opposed to modifying/removing them? I feel that the block quote in the graphic novel section is beneficial to give insight into the motivation behind Hancox's work and efficiently follows up the sentence "Hancox has said that he tries to bring transgender issues into the mainstream through his work." Similarly with the block quote in the trans identity section, he's publicly known as trans, his work directly engages with that and sources explicitly discuss it so I feel like just that paragraph showing his own feeling regarding the fact is very beneficial, especially in the personal life section and if kept seperate to the main text through the use of a quotebox.
  • This wasn't a change that you said should be made however I would like to mention I made it. I changed "shock tactics" (in quotations) to " shock value " (linked without without quotes)
Respair (talk) 22:28, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
In regards to your questions. I think that is an acceptable solution for the second blockquote (the first one is more of an issue than the second), but the problem is anything interpretive. Even if I might agree with the implications personally, I think that could be an issue. For the first blockquote I'm struggling to see how "Growing up in the early 2000s, I didn't see trans people like me represented in the media" can be kept in the quote at all. I would maybe try breaking the first quote up into something like 'After the book was picked up by Scholastic for publishing, he commented: "...this is the book I wish I'd had [growing up in the early 2000s] to show me I wasn't alone." He explained that "entertaining while incidentally educating is so important to me" and that in writing the memoir, that he sought to "use empathy and get beyond politics and shouting."'
I'm not married to this solution, but I hope it illustrates better than I have been able to express in words what I think the issue is.
Pietrus1 (talk) 02:40, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to look at the citation things now that the problem quotations have been mostly dealt with. This is a fairly contained issue. Pietrus1 (talk) 02:42, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
OK. Most of the review is now done. Let me know once the remaining quote issues are done, and I think all that will remain to be done is the check for source-text integrity and minor OR.
Pietrus1 (talk) 05:16, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your WP:BOLD edits.
  • I've changed the block quote in the graphic novel section into the broken up main prose you suggested.
  • You expressed less concern over the transgender identity block quote, the way it is now with the other quote broken down, would it still be necessary to move it as I feel that it is a suitable close summary of that section as a block quote. I've asked over at the #wplgbt channel on the WP:DISCORD. If you have no issues about it but concern over what other editors may think, would you be okay with this?
  • I made a few copyedit-ish grammar changes, changed the section "Graphic novels and cartoons" to "Graphic novels and illustration and reworded the sentence in the lead about lists to "and has been recognized by news outlets for his contributions to digital media and LGBTQ representation."
Respair (talk) 12:29, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Feel free to do what that discord tells you to with regard to the second blockquote.
Pietrus1 (talk) 16:27, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • [‡1] supports "Hancox was born on 15 June 1989,". I changed the reference for "assigned female" as suggested.
  • I removed [1] for "In 2015, Hancox lived with his girlfriend in Brighton; as of 2020, they resided in Southsea, Portsmouth."
  • I attempted to find a source that Hancox had discovered the trans identity through the internet, to no avail. Must have been false memory on my part, so I removed the information.
  • Added [4] which supports "He has said that at the age of five he told his mother that he was "a boy trapped in a girl's body"."
  • [8] is currently functioning for me but you can see the archived version.
  • [26] and [37] can be accessed through a paywall remover, removepaywall.com has worked well for me.
