Consolidated discussion to Talk:Western Sucker-footed Bat#Requested move Apteva (talk) 21:59, 2 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Lesser Yellow BatLesser yellow bat – -> sentence case mammal species common name as specified in WP:MOS. WolfmanSF (talk) 08:36, 27 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

despite the fact that a bat can fly they are not actually birds but mamals so that WikiProject does not even apply.--174.95.111.105 (talk) 20:45, 27 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes—my point was that the proposed capitalization is appropriate for most species, even if you'll find a prominent counterexample with birds. --BDD (talk) 21:11, 27 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
My mistake, I assumed that you mistook a bat for a bird based on the fact that they fly and was concerned that the Bird WikiProject would apply--174.95.111.105 (talk) 02:32, 28 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Given the level of support, in the future I will make similar mammal species name change requests as technical (uncontroversial) requests, which will obviate the need for discussion and speed things up a bit. WolfmanSF (talk) 19:54, 29 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Some editors have expressed an opinion that species names are proper nouns and should be capitalized, although this seems to be a minority view. If I were you, I'd want to see a few more uncontroversial RMs in this field before moving on to technical requests. You could do multiple page moves to process them in batches, at least, as the issues and arguments are likely to be the same. --BDD (talk) 20:46, 29 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
