As I am expanding the German Wikipedia article, I came across the english version and was a bit taken aback. The article is not only very short, but makes statements which are incorrect:
Philipp Melanchthon accompanied Luther but did not participate in the talks;
Karlstadt challenged Eck, not vice versa;
Eck was no member of the Dominican order but a canon and professor of theology;
Eck did not "invite" Luther to participate. Rather, he published theses as material for the debate with Karlstadt which alluded in an obvious manner to Luther's positions. Luther felt he should respond himself and tried to be accepted as an active participant in the Leipzig debate, which was granted to him only immediately before talks started.
These details are elementary and non-disputed amongst church historians. The debate as such is also not rendered correctly. For ample literature, see German version. Best wishes: Ktiv--Ktiv (talk) 09:38, 20 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
