The second sentence of this is "it was formed in response (and in opposition to) the rise of Stalinism." This is a very narrow definition for the second sentence, and I wouldn't even say it is correct. The entire party outside of Trotsky's faction was against him, including Nikolai Bukharin whom it would be hard to call a "Stalinist" whatever that is. And saying he was banned as Stalin consolidated his power forgets the fights between the Stalin faction and Bukharin faction of the Central Committee.

These articles on Russian history are written in a ridiculous manner, where individuals matter more than huge groups, as if Trotsky and Stalin exist in a vacuum and if say Stalin got sick and died suddenly, these ideological fights would have disappeared. Two factions existed which many people belonged to, and Trotsky and Stalin just happened to lead them. It's as if saying if Kerry died, all of a sudden every liberal on the West Coast would suddenly agree with Bush, because the only two people in the country who matter are Bush and Kerry. This is quite ridiculous, yet so many of the Russian articles are written like this. Stalin would never have been able to get where he was without a lot of support from the powers that mattered in Russian society. Ruy Lopez 07:47, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Adding {{Communism}}?

What are the arguments for and against adding {{Communism}} to this page? Alternatively, should we have a box for the Communist Party of the Soviet Union instead? We could make it incorporate all the factions from the Left Communists to the Anti-Party Group, which may help put it in perspective. Ahasuerus 13:41, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

International Left Opposition

Currently, International Left Opposition redirects here, but the article deals exclusively with the Left Opposition in the CPSU. Should there be material about the Left Opp elsewhere in this article? Or a seperate page on the ILO? I'm thinking, for example, about adding material about the Left Opposition in France. BobFromBrockley 16:25, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
