A couple notes

I tried cleaning up this article a bit, focusing on style and more careful attribution to sources. The article could definitely benefit from some expansion: in the article, Leffen's competitive Melee history focuses on Apex 2015. While that tournament was quite significant for Leffen, as he became the first Melee player to take sets off of all the Melee "gods", Leffen had been notable (at least within the Melee scene) long before Apex. If there are good enough sources for it, his tournament history should be greatly fleshed out. —MathMaven (talk ∫ edits) 06:45, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Unreliable sources

(diff) @Prisencolin, the following sources are unreliable and should be sourced to a vetted vg source or otherwise removed: Melee It On Me, Smash Boards, Nintendo Enthusiast, YouTube as a primary source, EventHubs, Reddit, and Twitter when it isn't being used in the set self-published source (basic info) way. For instance, it is not notable that a parody Twitter account was created unless a secondary source covers it—it is inappropriate to link to its existence as the reason for its citation. I support Czar's stance here. The source are not reliable, and the SPS sources are not used in the appropriate manner... Sergecross73 msg me 03:20, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

EventHubs and SmashBoards aren't SPSs, and the portion of SmashBoards used is a database that can't be publicly edited. YouTube videos are a recording of a broadcast and did not originate on the site. Article name

Forgive my OCD, but shouldn't this article be under the name, "William Hjelte", as opposed to his gaming handle, in the interests of consistency? Jason Zimmerman, Kevin Nanney, Joseph Marquez, Juan Debiedma and Adam Lindgren are all articles titled based on their first names. JaeDyWolf ~ Baka-San (talk) 13:47, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Recent controversy involving Hax$

With the recent passing of fellow player Abdulaziz Al-Yami "Hax$" there has been significant backlash against Leffen, for his involvement with that, I believe this warrants a subsection on the controversies section 24.182.106.14 (talk) 05:05, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

Late reply, there is no WP:RS stating real backlash on Leffen. In addition the community itself does not blame Leffen for anything that happened. The story of Hax's controversy is more so a story of someone by his own admission having long term untreated severe chronic mental disorders and substance addictions, and other health problems fueling decade+ long one sided obsession towards Leffen and fueling delusions where Hax alleged a dozen+ conspiracy theories and accusations of actual crimes based on very dubious evidence, such as the color of Leffen's pants. When no one in the community bought into the accusations nor banned Leffen like Hax wanted, so Hax doubled down kept repeating old and new allegations for a long time resulting in a ban, then later Hax apologized, later unbans began, then later recanted his apology and restate his allegations resulting in a permanent ban. Then Hax died due to unknown reasons but according to his mother's statements it appears to be liver failure, though no one really knows publicly.

Early on lolcow related groups took noticed and tried to egg on Hax to keep making more videos, to restate allegations, sane wash the allegations to try to convince others not in the community of the allegations; as well as feeding his mental health issues, including telling Hax Leffen was secretly paying them to spy on Hax and Leffen was about to enact a evil plan on him. They also using Hax as a excuse to harass people, send death threats, and even doxx people. This community of people obsessing with attacking the smash community already existed beforehand attached themselves to Hax mostly in a attempt to get legitimacy in their harassment, and they by their own admission thought it was funny to goad Hax into self destructive actions and feed his obsession.

Leffen himself barely spoke on the controversy and already left the Smash scene for most of the controversy. The only people blaming Leffen are from outside the community promoted by lolcow related groups and youtubers based on the idea that Leffen personally controls ban decisions of the entire grassroots community, and that all of Hax's accusations of dozen+ extreme conspiracies are true, though they switch between who their target to blame and then harass and try to doxx changes depending on the week. This is all a sad story of someone by his own admission struggled with extreme issues taken advantage of and deliberately spread disinformation by outsiders as a excuse to attack people, while claiming to help Hax when doing so, with some attacking are in on the grift while others attacking fully buys into the idea that Leffen literally controls the Smash scene from the shadows. WP:NPOV, WP:RS, and WP:NOR violations on controversy section.

The controversy section is failing WP:NPOV, WP:RS, and WP:NOR. Not just a paragraph but the whole section makes heavy use of writing contentious statements that the sourced used to justify the statement does not mention said claims. This is original research pushing negative perspective attempt to being passed off in already sketchy sources statements that never said the claimed allegations.

For example, the section in the first paragraph claims Leffen "...spreading false rumors about other players, intimidating newcomers, and making fun of individuals' illnesses or disabilities." The three sources that immediately followed this sentence makes zero mention of these three very specific allegations. Its clear the person who wrote this assumed no one would check the source. The whole section is like this.

This section requires a rewrite if were to exist at all. Otherwise per WP:BLP this is required to be removed immediately without discussion.

It should also be stated there are known groups attempting to deliberately slander Leffen, so its not surprising this happpened. Bobbobet (talk) 21:18, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
