Heating gasoline as a source for gas for lead burning?
[edit]I heard a family story about someone trying to heat gasoline. No purpose was given, and I always wondered why someone would try such a thing.
Separately, I was reading "The Art of Lead Burning" by C. H. Fay (1905) (I was curious about the history of welding) which mentions, in chapter 5, making a "generator" that heats gasoline to produce the gas for lead burning as an alternative if Illuminating gas was not available. This seems to coincide with "Air Gas" mentioned in that latter article.
My question is, is heating gasoline something worth noting here? You can get to a description of "Air Gas" by following links in this article, but I don't know enough about the relation between the different gasses to know which is applicable.
It might seem notable to me, just because I don't usually think of gasoline (petrol) as having any other use besides fueling an internal combustion engine.
