Folk etymology

I've found several references to the "lazy jacks=fewer jack tars" claim for the origin of the word. As usual there's no citation in these sources and no evidence that this connection is anything more than someone's fancy. It strikes me as somewhat dubious because the square-rigged ships of the British navy don't use these; they have a different system. Mangoe (talk) 12:55, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
