"Regrading"

Exaggeration of Aluminum Content?

The line "The concentration of aluminium in many landfills is higher than the concentration of aluminum in bauxite from which the metal is derived." seems like an exaggeration compared to the source's "the proportion of valuable and recoverable metals found in closed landfill sites (eg, aluminium) can be as high as in some mined ore deposits." Note the jump between "can be" and "some mined ore" to "many" and implied all mined ore. Also note the quality of the source. This claim is based on an article by a lawyer, which lacks a lot of the rigor we might hope for for such a claim. Maybe this should be revised or equipped with a better source. Yeah, according to the us epa landfill aluminum content was 1.3% (https://www.epa.gov/facts-and-figures-about-materials-waste-and-recycling/aluminum-material-specific-data), bauxite is 15-25% aluminum according to minerals and rocks 2020, Introduction to Mineralogy and Petrology (Second Edition)S.K. Haldar. I don’t doubt the lawyer that in some circumstances this is true but broadly based on US epa data and bauxite composition it does not appear to be usual in the US at least and likely other countries as well. 94.147.28.232 (talk) 20:01, 11 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
