Lake Simcoe as a "fist"

It is an very good description but everyone I've heard use that analogy is that Lake Simcoe looks like a hand pointing SOUTH towards Toronto with Kempenfelt Bay as the "thumb" and Cook's Bay as the finger. Toronto's name

There's a conflict between the origin of the name Toronto on this page and on other pages, such as the page for Toronto. I would suggest changing the origin to match the information found on Toronto's name. Twinchester 13:45, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Indeed, but this will require careful cleanup. tkaronto, and later Taronto, were applied to the narrows where fishing was commonly practiced, whereas the lake may have had a different name altogether. The name Toronto was likely a transcription error by an Italian cartographer, who may have found the mis-spelling more phonetically pleasing. (I have no sources for that, though.) Duplicate Information

The opening paragraph and the Toponymy section have a lot of duplicate information regarding the history of the lake's names. I don't know which section should be removed but I think one of them should have the duplication removed. Zelytic (talk) 13:56, 23 June 2026 (UTC)

What Magnolia said. Basically a lede is just a summarized restatement of what came after, the headlines if you were. A person should be able to read just that and get enough to understand the basic gist/key points. Nothing in the lede should be only in the lede and not in the body - on a perfect article you probably write the opening line, then the entire article, then you write the lede, more or less, about the article. — Very Polite Person (talk/contribs) 14:10, 23 June 2026 (UTC)

So when in doubt, if I'm fixing up an article, I'll usually just take anything extra in the "lede" and dump it down to the body, leaving just a one-liner lede. Then you deduplicate as needed from the body, and build back "upward". — Very Polite Person (talk/contribs) 14:22, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
