William Leonard Pickard & Ergolines

There should be a mention of William Leonard Pickard in this article, as from what I've heard, he was the chemist involved in synthesizing LSZ in the illicit labs mentioned in the last paragraph (reference #3). I went ahead & added it.

Also, does anybody think it's worth adding the fact that LSZ is a member of the ergoline family to this article? I realize it says that it's an analogue of LSD and that the page for LSD says that it's an ergoline, so I realize some people might find this redundant. I, however, think it's not a bad idea.

If I don't hear back from anyone within a week, I'm gonna make the edit (the ergoline one...I already made the William Leonard Pickard edit). If someone else comes along here after that who disagrees with me, feel free to edit it back, but please do reply to this and state your reasoning.

Lysergic acid 2,4-dimethylazetidide (Hereby LSZ (drug)) has had 15481 hits in the last 90 days, LSZ reduction formula (Hereby LSZ RF) has had 2448. LSZ (drug) has over 1000 pages linking to it, LSZ RF has under 50. LSZ (Drug) related links make up the entirety of the first page of google search results for "LSZ". LSZ RF is 15th, the fourth topic linked.

The acronym "LSZ" currently redirects back to this page and there is an LSZ (disambiguation) page with the drug listed as the primary topic. The other entries on the LSZ disambiguation page are "LSZ reduction formula" and "Lošinj Airport" ("IATA: LSZ, ICAO: LDLO"). A previous discussion on the current talk page made the case for the drug being the primary topic for "LSZ", although this was over 10 years ago. Most of the top results for "LSZ" via Google Search are for the drug. In Google Scholar, there are 378 results for "LSZ" the drug (via some disambiguation terms) () and 1,270 results for "LSZ reduction formula" (). However, the latter is distinct from "LSZ" via a longer name that is essential in describing what it is (the "LSZ" part is simply an acronym of the formula's three creators' last names). Per policies like WP:OCHEMNAME, WP:COMMONNAME (WP:RECOGNIZE), WP:ACROTITLE, and WP:CONCISE, I propose moving the drug page to "LSZ". That is, the common/trivial name is preferred per Wiki policies, an acronym is fine if the acronym (by itself) primarily refers to the topic in question, and the new title is more succinct, concise, and readily recognizable. Also, the page name for the closely related drug LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) is the acronym form similarly. • Oppose as although this is a valid name for the substance, I think that LSZ should be a disambiguation page. There are also meanings in methematics LSZ filed theory, and LSZ reduction. LSZ appears to be a prefix for drug code names too.

Comment: I had forgotten about the LSZ-* drug prefix. It seems that it's associated with a couple of experimental drugs per investigational drug databases (). At least one of them seems to be associated with Novartis, which is a Swiss pharmaceutical company. And it appears that there's a "Life Science Zurich" ("LSZ") joint division of the University of Zurich and ETH Zürich in Switzerland. That might be where that prefix originated from, since it doesn't obviously relate to "Novartis". Although LSZ reduction formula has a substantial amount of pageviews and Google Scholar hits, this is only a partial title match, as are the other candidates listed at LSZ (disambiguation). LSZ has been a primary redirect to this article since April seemingly without controversy. WikiNav for this article indicates that neither the dab page is not among the top 8 pages readers navigate to from this article despite being linked in the hatnote. While not definitive, this at least indicates that large numbers of readers are not landing at the wrong "LSZ" from the redirect or otherwise. The proposed title is obviously more concise; is consistent with titles of many similar articles including LSD, ALD-52, ETH-LAD, 1P-LSD, BOL-148, and MiPLA; is likely more recognizable to a wider readership; and does not result in a change in primary topic or navigation. —Myceteae‍🍄‍🟫 (talk) 22:57, 29 October 2025 (UTC)
