Recent edits

I've noticed the constant reiteration of this information inserted into the article:

Despite popular belief, Kyo isn't SNK's strongest character. SNK's strongest character is actually Terry Bogard. The reason for Terry's losses in KOFs after Fatal Fury is because Fatal Fury was his story. Terry only enters for fun. The same trend applies to Kyo as once the Orochi saga was finished, K' won all of the KOFs in the NESTS saga. Now with the ASH saga, Ash has been winning. The winners of KOF depend on the main character of the saga.

While this may be possibly true, it is unreferenced and it depicts POV, especially the Despite popular belief, Kyo isn't SNK's strongest character. bit. If it's someone's wish to insert this into the article, I would very much like to see an source for it and some reasoning regarding it. Hmmm...I had a message on my talk about this. Video games players (including me!) often have this kind of opinion, it's a kind of 'tribal knowledge', even when it is disagreed on among players. However, I think to fit it into an encyclopedia is difficult in its present form. It certainly does represent a point-of-view as 'Zero says, and I think it has the tinge of someone's personal evaluation to it (termed original research, even though it isn't what is usually called research). We have to be sure that each fact in an article can be located in good, external sources — and that different views on which characters are better are included so long as some such source has said so. It can be a popular gaming magazine, the vendors, etc, but it needs to have a source. I wonder is the author of the passage above reading this talk page? If they are, can they offer a link (or two, or three) for the claims made? In case they're not, 'Zero, do you think such sources exist at all? If they might, can you find out which parts of the passage can be backed up? I don't know quite where to start looking; SNK characters are not something I have played much. • I've searched for sources and found none. Allowing this violation of neutrality is not an option. It is harmful to the proffesional constructiveness of the encyclopedia. It also becomes incresingly difficult to keep up on infactual information such as this as more edits are accumulated. And the boss wants it gone.

Not only has the anonymous editor who has insisted on the insertion on the fancruft neglected to provide sources or verifitable fact, he /she continues to re-add the edits and ignore discussion which the actions clearly indicate. It is clearly within policy to evicirate oringinal research and orher information if it lacks reference. And I am quite done edit warring over what has essentially degarded into vandalism.

People with no interest in editing the encyclopedia to the highest standard avalible become POV producers and advocates- some users, in fact, in addition to their prolific mislead editting activities, made a habit of convincing others on talkpages with deliberately falsified research summaries.

So its utter nonsense to say that this type of actions don't damage Wikipedia. It's pie-in-the-sky to imagine that we can get anywhere by talking to the kind of people who come to Wikipedia to produce this trash. Per another editor's inquiry, I will explain why, exactly ,these pharagraphs are harmful. They give the reader of "character superiority" in regards to another, and that is a big no-no. full-stop. Articles are meant to be as neutral as possible, and futhurmore, no official sources back up these claims. In paticular, the statement Despite popular belief, is an opener for an biased point of view. How are we to know what "popular belief" is, and indeed, if it even exsists or is legit..?

Another pharagraph being inserted into the Terry Bogard article is In the Capcom/SNK crossover games, Terry is paired as being SNK's equivalent to Capcom's Ken, who is quite similar in attitude and looks. Kyo Kusanagi is the character paired with Ryu, since, even though he's a younger character, Kyo's by far the more popular one. However, in skill level and sheer power, Terry is more an equal to Ryu than Kyo is. which is extremely unencyclopediac. It suspends one character's attributes in favor of another, it clearly makes an reference to an biased claim, and makes an personal viewpoint on appearence. Per the clean-up tag added, I have completely rewritten this article and its similarly messy counterpart, Iori Yagami. After reading over them, I discovered they both were grossly elaborated, and the writing quality left much to be desired. Its difficult to describe what I observed into words. When the infobox was implmented earlier, the images didn't mesh into the template and looked unnatural against it, as if it didn't belong. It, however, looked fine on most renders. I changed the template, taking away the bolded lines and devisions. It looks suitible across all articles now and I feel its a great comprimise, something AMIB and I can be happy upon. -Randall Brackett 11:03, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Upon earlier inspection of the template, which was derived from the CVG infobox, the original formatting was created with the intent to house box art and the like. With character images being more variable and can be implemented in various manners across the wiki I though this minor change was suitible. I also retained the blue and white design, signifying its relation to the CVG project as this was a note raised by A Man In Black earlier. Ok I'd like to say that despite the good intentions, the information that the story part of the article contains is really what's grossly written, since it has misinformation and made up things. I don't know if it comes from the original writing and Zero just rewrote the thing or if Zero is the one that doesn't know the story but there are several things that are wrong and there are others that are important and aren't mentioned at all. Also, I'd like to see a writing style more faithful to the spirit of the series, and with more dynamism and effort put into it, without falling in "in-universe" styles of writing. For starters, Goenitz doesn't say that when he is leaving, and he never lays defeated, he disappears while he's standing, Kyo doesn't have nightmares of a man defeating him in 97, that happens in 96 and the man is Goenitz, Kyo doesn't meet Shingo and doesn't train him because of these nightmares, Iori and Leona's blood doesn't get more and more corrupted, their blood carries a secret riot called the "Riot of the blood" that comes out when Orochi is near to revive or when he commands them to use it, and the new team of Yashiro, Shermie and Chris isn't the New Face Team, it's called the New Faces Team. Corrections, corrections... I'm not going to write the article myself, I want someone else to do it. There must be other competent people that know the story and can write competently. Gameplay section needs help

Although I like Kyo's character and story, I know for sure that I would butcher the gameplay section if I tried to edit it. As far as I know, he was a Ryu clone until '96 where he got his "Wicked Chew" chain moves. After that, I'm a bit stumped on what else to say. Clean up started

I started cleaning this article today, but there are some things that I think need to be changed.

• The Kyo clones and Kusanagi could be merged in the list of characters since they have a different game story from the original Kyo.
• Also, the lead image needs to be replaced with a smaller resolution as well as we need to upload an image of his school uniform since it is commented too many times in the conception section.

I've done some copy editing to the article; except the video game appearances because I've never played them before. I would get someone more familiar with them to rewrite them in an out-of-universe perspective. The content depicts fictional content in a way that makes it sound somewhat real.

A few sources may get questioned at GAN; the NTSC-uk review and the VCR review, maybe one or two more that I'm not really familiar with. The sites look slightly questionable, but an argument can be to assert their reliability.

• NTSC-uk: I would direct questions to the site's about us page. It shows that the staff has some hierarchy of editors, though this may not be enough to demonstrate a process of editorial oversight is in place. It also mentions how Edge (magazine) listed them as Website of The Month in Issue 101.
• VCR: I would show the reliability of the author rather than the whole site. Damien McFerran has written for gamesTM, Retro Gamer, and Eurogamer. Some of his credits are listed on the site's about us page.

This is a really old GA that has been revisited after new sources were found to provide more insight about its creation. More third party sources were also given due to the recent need of notability in general the WP:VG has made. However, I'm kinda confused about how far the weight of the article is possible and it affects that the franchise has had 15 main installments where the character is present resulting in its notable amount of appearances. Same happens with images. The character is notable for having several notable designs but it's weird for SNK artists to draw them all together which lead me to use a VS match from 13 which gathers two. Any assitance will be appreciated.

Just to be clear, I am working off this verison of the article. My comments are below:

• I notice several issues with the citations. The Japanese language sources should have English translations for the titles. There are several instances in which the website/publishers are not linked and/or are not treated consistently. An example of this is how Den of Geek is treated as a website for Citation 101 and as a publisher for Citation 157 and how it is not linked in either citation. Citation 178 has an issue with the access-date being include in the citation title.
• Video game titles should be consistently italicized in the citation title per MOS:CONFORMTITLE, and I would not put having parts of the citation titles in all caps. There are also instances where the citations do not include all of the information, like how Citation 149 does not include the author. I would strongly encourage you to look through each citation to make sure everything is consistent and correctly structured and linked. This would be my primary concern with the article, as citation structure is very important.
• I think the prose could use some further attention and revision. I am seeing a few sentences that seem rather long and would benefit from either being made more concise or looking at it again in general, like Kyo was created by Yuichiro Hiraki and Shinichi Morioka as a young hero who would fight the main characters from other SNK franchises, such as Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting with inspirations from several rebelious icons, most notably the late singer Yutaka Ozaki. and Late in production, his name was changed to Kyo Kusanagi, as a means of relating the character to the Yamata no Orochi legend, which was the basis of the story arc of the series.
• There are also parts that seem awkwardly-constructed, such as since his original appearance, featuring a high school uniform, became popular with fans, designers created clones of his original costume in later games, and are not fully connected, like Director Masanori Kuwasashi was responsible for the handling of the Orochi arc. has good information but it is disconnected and separated from the original discussion about the the Yamata no Orochi legend by sentences about different names. There is also some repetition in certain spots like "recalling" being used twice in the following sentence: While recalling Athena Asamiya's character in her early appearances, Capcom believed that Kyo was the coolest character in the early The King of Fighters games when recalling the franchise's first games. This just what I have noticed from an admittedly superficial reading of the article so feel free to disagree with either of these two points. A request for a copy-edit from the WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors may be beneficial. From my understanding, this article was last copy-edited by them in 2016, but please correct me if I am wrong.
• Maybe I am missing something obvious, but I am not sure what "Portrayal" means for the subsection heading. It seems like a combination of information about the characterization and voice actors, but I think a clearer section heading would be useful here.
• This is more of a minor note, but I would say "fighting video game" rather than just "fighting game". You can use the same link, but just expand on it. I am suggesting this as it would be beneficial for readers who are unfamiliar with video games and may think of either "fighting games" or "games" in general in another context so a small addition would address this without really changing much.
• For the infobox image caption, I would clarify which game the design is from as it is not clear to readers like myself who have never heard of this video game franchise before. The WP:FUR for the infobox should be completed, and by that I mean, there should not be any parameters with "N.A.". Also, WP:ALT text should be used for each of the images.
• Make sure video game specific terms and jargon are linked. For instance, demo, PlayStation 3, and port are not linked.
• I do not think that it is useful to include the names of books or chapters titles in the prose, unless it is something notable like with 1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die, which is not linked in the article. I believe that it would be better to clearly attribute the author in the prose and to add a descriptor to introduce them so the reader can more clearly identify and understand who is saying what.
• I would avoid using a thesis or dissertation, like with Citations 153 and 175, per WP:SCHOLARSHIP, although I know that other editors have different opinions on this.

I hope that these comments are helpful. I can tell that a lot of time and work has been put into this article, and I am always happy to see this being done for a fictional character. Please let me know if you have any questions about anything. My main concern would be with the citation formatting, but I have also noticed some areas that could be improved upon in regards to the prose and the images.
