Consumer Reports comparison

[edit]

In March 2009 Consumer Reports magazine tested the Kymco People 150, Yamaha Vino 125 and Vespa LX 150 in the 125-150 cc class, as well as the Honda Rebel, Kawasaki Ninja 250 in the 250 cc class and the Honda Ruckus and Motorino Allegro int the 50 cc class. The lead of the 125-150 section was, "The 150cc Kymco People and Vespa LX 150 were the best overall scooters."

While Consumer Reports is a credible source, this was their first ever attempt at testing any two wheeled vehicles. They made mistakes like choosing only a 3,600 foot track, which is why they never got above 86 mph with the Ninja 250. But the main issue is the tiny handful of scooters and motorcycles they tested. This makes claims such as that the Kymco tied for first place a little absurd; it tied for 1st out of only 3 scooters.

Individual data points from the CR test are probably reliable, but their overall conclusions are dubious, especially when many other media offer more comprehensive and rigorous reviews. --Dbratland (talk) 22:30, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Consumer Reports will always be a dubious source after they tried to fake the test results for Suzuki SUVs. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_v._Consumers_Union Santamoly (talk) 07:58, 19 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
