@DrPlantGenomics and @Oronsay: Wikipedia should not speculate. Although Reece Kershaw has announced he will retire early, until he retires, he is still the incumbent commissioner of the AFP. at this time, Krissy Barrett is the proposed incoming AFP commissioner and only assumes office on 4 October 2025, not today. Biographies of living people should generally be written in the present tense. So while Barrett will become the AFP commissioner on 4 October 2025, currently she is the future or proposed AFP commissioner until that date. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 05:23, 9 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
We're not speculating. That information is readily verifiable. The prime minister has officially announced the appointment of a new commissioner. She's not just "proposed", the governor-general is obliged to act upon the prime minister's advice without hesitation. WP:CRYSTALBALL does caution against speculation but it qualifies that this information must be verifiable.
Yes, she is the incoming commissioner, but she is NOT the incumbent commissioner until 4 October 2025. Wikipedia should not be saying she is, now, as that is speculation. There is always the possibility that something could happen between today and 4 October that might prevent her becoming the AFP commissioner.
